Building-

Construction crews will begin work on replacing our old exterior fencing with better ones per the Austin ISD security upgrades. Angela has asked for more details regarding what to expect for staff, students, and community. Stay tuned for more details.

1. Be mindful of the freshly waxed floors. Avoid dragging items across the floors. Request a flatbed from Susan and custodial team.

Do not dispose of unwanted classroom items in the hallways or lounge.

2. Construction crews are busy working on finishing up the front secure entry vestibules and other safety updates in the front office and surrounding spaces. Avoid these areas and seek other entry points into the building. There will be a cleaning crew here this week once the project is complete.

Construction is also occurring outside the building. The City of Austin is working on new sidewalks and other improvements. Please be mindful of construction crews and equipment as you come onto campus.

3. Need supplies for your classroom?

Make sure to review all portions of the Staff Handbook and bring questions to your Team Leaders (they are meeting with admin team on Aug 8) or directly to admin team.

As you are scheduling personal appointments for you and your family during the school year, please be mindful of the required meetings listed in the Meeting Structures section of the handbook (Faculty, Committees, PLCs, etc.)

1. We're so excited to be welcoming all staff back on August 8th! This will be a regular work day for all staff (7:30am-3:30pm). District and campus professional development will be August 8 - August 19.

*New to Mills teachers will be here on campus for the new teacher orientation Wednesday, August 7 at 9am. An email will be sent to new folks!

At the beginning of every year, all Austin ISD staff are required to complete online professional development modules. Staff include everyone from district officials to campus administrations, teachers, and teaching assistants/classified staff.

Please make sure you go into your HCP (in the Portal) so you are aware of the required online trainings.

Hot off the press for ELAR & Social Studies teachers! The Humanities department provided a great session to provide an overview of the IMPROVED changes coming to curriculum documents and resources. You will receive detailed information during job alike day on August 13, but here are the slides Angela received today in her training. Great stuff!

All teams will be using district resources with fidelity this year (with options for novel studies for upper grades embedded into the curriculum). I encourage you to begin digging into the curriculum docs if are curious!

The district has released their Instructional Minutes requirements for the upcoming school year.

Please review it on your own and as a team. As we work to finalize our Master Calendar, these instructional minutes requirements will impact calendar and lesson planning.

You'll notice that there are adjustments to academic minutes in all subject areas. There is also a required Response to Intervention (RTI) time for ELAR/Math as mandated by TEA. We will discuss this in detail soon and at the beginning of the year so everyone is prepared, so do not stress.
