Black History Month
During the weeks of February 17th - February 28th, we will celebrate Black History Month by having guest readers coming to our school who are positive Black role models for our community. The goal is to provide students with meaningful stories that highlight Black history, culture, and achievements while also allowing students to connect with the role models.
Great Kindness Challenge
The week of February 17th through February 21st, K-8 Connect will celebrate The Great Kindness Challenge - School Edition, which focuses on one immersive week of kindness. Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade will concentrate on spreading kindness by sharing smiles, expressing gratitude, and performing thoughtful acts of compassion throughout their school and community! There will be dress up days during this week! More details will be shared with students and families soon! The picture below has a few examples of acts of kindness your student could do at home.
PBIS Matrix - K-8 Connect Behavior Expectations
K-8 Connect has a PBIS Matrix that specifically details behavior expectations across school settings. In order for students to be successful at K-8 Connect, they must display behavior that is SAFE, RESPECTFUL, & RESPONSIBLE. The staff at K-8 Connect are emphasizing these 3 values with students. Several students are now able to recite the 3 values. Please take a look at the matrix below as a reminder of our behavior expectations. Fun fact: The School Counselor uses a star chart at home with the 3 values and her 2 children earn stars when they display being safe, respectful, and responsible at home (Please see the second picture below). These 3 values are especially great because they can be applied to school, home, and the community.
Family Resources
The Treehouse Pantry will have a drive-through food giveaway on February 24th. Please email Joleen Nutter (K-8 School Counselor) at jnutter@sdale.org if you want to be signed up for this event.
Springdale School District Social Workers have a wonderful website filled with community resources (e.g., food, housing, medical, etc.). You can find more information at the website linked here: sdale.org/page/community-resources.
