QHS Interdisciplinary TEAM QHS Interdisciplinary TEAM

Our Interdisciplinary Teacher Teams have spent time recently working independently to design lessons in our individual content areas that we felt could be made more accessible to our students who have an IEP or 504 plan. Samples of lessons with an extensive list of potential accommodations were shared and discussed as at a previous meeting. Our Teams will meet again at the end of the month to share our initial drafts and solicit feedback from our colleagues through a formal “peer review” process. This independent work is the culmination of a months-long study in the area of special education and how best to support our students individual needs.

Metal Fabrication Visits Local 7 Ironworkers Metal Fabrication Visits Local 7 Ironworkers

zoom_out_map

Welding and Metal Fabrication senior students recently had the invaluable opportunity to visit Local 7 Ironworkers in Boston as part of their exploration into the world of apprenticeship within the union. During the visit, the students were given a comprehensive tour of the union's school, delving into the intricate details of what it takes to become an apprentice. A highlight of the experience was the visit to their Welding shop and School, where students gained hands-on insights into the trade.

One particularly exciting aspect of the visit was the chance for the students to try their hand at climbing the column, a task that apprentices at Local 7 Ironworkers are expected to master. This hands-on experience provided a unique perspective into the challenges and skills required in the field, allowing the students to envision themselves as future apprentices in the union. The tour not only broadened their understanding of the practical aspects of welding but also inspired them with a glimpse into the day-to-day tasks and responsibilities they may encounter as they pursue a career in Ironwork within the union.
