Letter from the Principal Letter from the Principal

FMS Families,

I hope you and your family had a wonderful and restful holiday break. Before we wrapped up December, our students and staff had a lot of fun celebrating together through Trojan Time games, our December assembly, and the FMS Talent Show. It was a great way to end the year and showcase the many talents and positive connections within our school community!

As we return to school, January will be a busy and important month for our students. We will be entering testing season, and we appreciate your continued support in helping students come to school rested, on time, and ready to do their best. Testing will take place on January 7, January 12-15, and January 20-21. Please also note that there will be no school on Monday, January 19 to provide our teachers with a day of professional learning.

We are also looking forward to several upcoming events:

  • Middle School Choir Concert on January 13

  • Our monthly Trojan PRIDE assembly on January 29

  • New LIFT groups beginning February 2

Winter activities are getting underway as well, with basketball season kicking off for our 7th and 8th grade boys and wrestling beginning for our 7th and 8th grade girls. We wish all of our student-athletes the best of luck and encourage families to come out and support them when possible!

Thank you for your continued partnership and support of Fairfield Middle School. We are excited for the learning, growth, and opportunities ahead as we begin 2026 together.

Leader in Me Activity Leader in Me Activity

As we enter a new calendar year, it is a great time to review the Leader in Me habits at home. Habit 1 is "Be Proactive," which fits nicely with the start of a new year and New Year's resolutions, if you set them. The whole idea is for EVERY student to believe they are in charge of themselves and to take control of what they can. Check out this family resource for some language to use at home about Habit 1: Be Proactive.

Another way to be proactive is to check your student's assignment journal weekly at home. This will help you know what your student is working on at school and how to help support them to complete their work in a timely manner. As a reminder, if your student fills out their AJ daily and you sign it weekly, they will qualify for a reward. Trimester 2 is a pizza and movie party!

January Testing January Testing

This month, we will be doing our Winter testing for students to get a gauge on where they are at in their learning of standards (see testing dates below). This data helps us as staff best identify students' needs, where they are currently in understanding their standards, and what supports they will need to be successful.

During the next few weeks, please encourage your student to get adequate rest the night before they test and suggest they have a breakfast to help them be as mentally prepared as possible.

We will be offering two Student Growth Challenges for students who show growth in their testing:

- Every student who meets half a year of expected growth in two of three areas will earn a candy nacho bar!

- The grade level with the highest growth (percent of students who showed expected growth averaged for Math, Science, and Reading) will earn free time and snacks during MTSS/LIFT!

Cold Weather Notice Cold Weather Notice

With the weather changing to lower temperatures, please speak with your student regarding appropriate clothing for colder weather. We will go outside if the real feel temperature is 10 degrees or warmer for recess as well as for outside before the building is open at 7:45. We will make adjustments to where students will be at regarding the AM before school starts and recess if the weather gets below the real feel of 10 degrees.
