Science Week and Book Week
As I walk around classrooms, I can see classes focussing on our dual celebration of Science Week and Book Week.
My thanks to Angela Walker for preparing fantastic activities, including making kaleidoscopes to observations of the natural world using magnifying glasses. The Library has some fantastic displays of Book Week resources and a colouring in competition for the children.
Do not forget: Friday is dress-up for Book Week. The theme Dreaming with Eyes Open leaves plenty of scope for creative minds.

Vision for Learning - Snapshots of our Early Childhood Charter
‘Pause Rewind Play’ Loose Parts Incursion
Over the last two days, we have had Jonny from ‘Pause Rewind Play ‘visit our early childhood classes at St Anthony’s. The incursion gave the children the opportunity to engage in play to explore, invent and create using loose parts in the outdoor environment. It was so wonderful to see the children using their creativity and being given the freedom to use the loose parts in any way they imagine!
“When children interact with loose parts, they enter a world of “what if” that promotes the type of thinking that leads to problem solving and theoretical reasoning. Loose parts enhance children’s ability to think imaginatively and see solutions, and they bring a sense of adventure and excitement to children’s play”.

Assumption of Mary – Monday 15th August
“Look upwards because, thanks to Mary’s assumption: “Heaven is open” and we need no longer be afraid. Mary is an icon of wisdom, strength, courage, and joyful hope. Her unconditional “yes” to God encourages all of us to say “yes” to God’s call today.” Pope Francis 2015
Value of the Week: Embrace Diversity and Difference
As a St. Anthony's community, we value diversity and strive to help everyone, regardless of their background, interests, needs, or skills.
Prayer of Inclusion
Lord, give us new strength so that we can build places of belonging: To create a community for all to share their gifts, to know that each of us is loved, To help us to see the light of Christ in all that we serve. Year 5 News
What a busy term we have had!
We’ve spent this term working hard and learning so many new things, that our brains are starting to hurt.
In our classrooms, we have welcomed Miss Crellin and Mrs B. They have been working and helping us and we are very happy to have them in our classes. In Health we are learning about our bodies and how they work. STEM has been amazing this term and we have learnt how to code use Lego Robotics. Our fabulous creations have been posted on Seesaw. It is Book Week and we have been very busy reviewing a book of choice and illustrating the front cover (see our Seesaw posts).
The remainder of the term will keep us busy with the Book Week parade, NIPSSA carnival, athletics carnival and swimming lessons. We’re exhausted thinking about it!

Science Week
This week is National Science Week!
This year’s theme is Glass – more than meets the eye!
We have been celebrating during our science lessons by using magnifiers to search for detail in natural things and making teleidoscopes (years 2-6 made their own to bring home). There are also some great glass themed activities you could do at home, visit the website below for details.

Medical News
Dear Parents/Carers,
I would like to remind you all again to keep any child home that is unwell. This is standard practise.
We have been sending home a large number of children that have either a runny nose, headache, sore throat, persistent cough or an upset stomach. While the child may not have COVID these are all symptoms of the virus, and I would strongly urge you have your child tested, with either a PCR test or a RATs test at home. If positive, then your child needs to isolate for 7 days.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Warmest wishes,
Aleisha Raby
