Welcome to QUIT TOBACCO WEEK 2025!

Where you live can significantly impact your health and the health of those around you.

A smoke-free and vape-free home protects you and your family from the dangers of secondhand and thirdhand smoke and aerosol and creates a safer, cleaner environment for everyone.

This Monday, launching this year's 2025 Quit Tobacco Week, we're focusing on making our homes and living spaces tobacco-free, including protecting against nicotine vaping! Explore how smoke-free and vape-free policies can benefit everyone, from renters and property owners to families living in shared housing.

Renters/Residents

You've just rented an apartment and moved in your belongings. You've even started on some interior decor and picturing how lovely your new space will be. Then, you suddenly wonder, "Is this apartment tobacco free?"

Living in a smoke-free and vape-free home means no lingering odors, cleaner air, and less risk of fires or smoke/aerosol damage.

The smoke-free rental housing map (linked) helps you look up smoke-free housing before renting. And if you already rent but your home or apartment complex isn’t tobacco-free, consider talking to your property manager about adopting a smoke-free and vape-free policy.

Property Owners/Managers

Deposits often are not enough to cover repair costs from smoke-related damage, both in money terms and time spent on the repairs. A smoke-free and vape-free policy can lower maintenance costs and reduce insurance premiums while creating a healthier living environment for all tenants.

You can add your smoke-free property to the registry so renters looking for smoke-free housing can find your property.

Families

If there's one environment you have some level of control over, it's the home environment in which your family grows. Your family can be tobacco free and live in a tobacco-free space.

This is important as secondhand and thirdhand smoke and aerosol exposure are dangerous, especially for children, pets, and vulnerable persons.

You can create a "Family Pledge" with your family as a display of your joint commitment to health.
