A Message From Your Admin
Dear Champion Cheetah Families,
Welcome to the return of the Cedar Point family newsletter – Cheetah Chat! Our Champion Cheetahs are thrilled to share with you the awesome instructional events and opportunities taking place each day.
I want to congratulate Cedar Point on being recognized as a Purple Star School (read more below)! Our military veterans are appreciated for their service, sacrifice and duty to our country. We are looking forward to welcoming our veterans to an assembly on Nov. 8.
Cedar Point was also recently recognized by PWCS for reducing the Chronic Absenteeism Rate from 9.96 to 4.11 percent! Well done!
Fall has arrived! Our students and staff are busy preparing to successfully close the first grading period. Everyone is commended for their incredible display of commitment, kindness, and positivity! 🍁 Report cards will be available (in ParentVUE on Nov. 13) for elementary school families.
We sincerely thank our generous PTO for hosting an amazing day of refreshments and snacks for our hardworking and gifted faculty and staff. The fall treats were delicious and we are all extremely grateful for the thoughtfulness of the PTO. The Costume Dance Party was also a big success – check out some of the photos featured and linked below!
Coming soon on Nov. 12 is our 2024-2025 Parent Advisory Council Survey. One of our goals here at Cedar Point is to enhance the involvement of our families and outreach to parents who may be willing to serve. Families are invited to complete the survey, as your voices and input are truly valuable.
Thank you for also completing the Impact Aid survey. The deadline is Nov. 30 and we hope to achieve a 100% return rate.
Yours in Education,
Aerica A. Williams, M.Ed., Acting Principal
Laura A. Crawford, Assistant Principal

Purple Star Achievement
On Oct. 21, Cedar Point received the Virginia Department of Education’s Purple Star designation for the 2024-25 school year! The Virginia Purple Star is awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated a major commitment to support students and families connected to our nation’s military.
We were able to celebrate this achievement on Oct. 22, with students and staff wearing purple and the Cheetah Chorus leading us all in song during morning arrival. Thank you to Mrs. Ro and our Cheetah Chorus for their patriotic welcome, and to Ms. Simpson, PWCS Military Achievement Specialist, for visiting and sharing the news with our students on Cheetah Vision! Also, a huge thank you to Mrs. Baldwin for all of her hard work and dedication on behalf of our school, leading us to receiving this special honor.
Please check out our Facebook page for more pictures and videos of our Purple Star celebration!

Kindergarten
On Oct. 31, Kindergarten had a blast celebrating the fall season with a field trip to Maple Tree Farms! Students were able to enjoy a train ride and corn maze, learned all about the life cycle of a pumpkin, and got to pick a pumpkin and ear of corn to bring home!
Check out some more photos on our Facebook page!
1st Grade
- Reading - Exploring non-fiction texts and their features
- Writing - Research writing
- Phonics - Sorting, classifying, and data analysis
- Social Studies - Patriotic symbols
- Science - Animals and their characteristics
2nd Grade
On Oct. 31, second grade students celebrated Pumpkin Science Day! Students weighed and measured their pumpkins, then estimated and counted the number of seeds in their pumpkins. Yes, sometimes learning is messy! Finally, we began a year-long science experiment by planting a pansy in each of their pumpkins. Students will place their pumpkins in their yard and observe and record the changes to their flower and their pumpkin over the next few months.
Save the Date: Merchant Day will be Nov. 15!
3rd Grade
Third grade participated in a fun-filled fall party on Oct. 31. First, we investigated pumpkins using all of our senses and then counted our seeds by using our multiplication skills of equal grouping. In the afternoon, we participated in our first Monster Math Mash where students "Solve-N-Treated" for letters to solve a riddle. Next time you see an amazing third grader ask them, "What does a monster fly in?"
4th Grade
Fourth Grade has started their multiplication and division unit. Students are creating flashcards at school for each fact from the 2s to the 12s. They are doing activities with each fact to help with memorizing. Students need to practice their flashcards at home to memorize their multiplication facts or create a quick method to be able to solve them.
Mark your calendars: Our Jamestown Field Trip is scheduled for all day on Thursday, April 3, 2025. More information will be coming home soon, including chaperone details.
5th Grade
In the second quarter, our fifth graders are looking forward to an exciting science unit focusing on earth processes and the rock cycle. We will be doing a lot of fun experiments, including making edible tectonic plates!
Also, make sure your Hall of Champion students are working on their service hours! By the end of the second quarter, we'd like to see students with at least 10 hours completed (5 per quarter). We will continue to share volunteer opportunities as they become available!
Special Education
Cheetah Café has begun! Cheetah Café is a student run program through which students with special needs prepare and deliver treats and cold drinks to staff. Students participate in all aspects of Cheetah Café, gaining academic and social skills.
Counselors' Corner
Hello! My name is Ms. Scott and I am the new school counselor at Cedar Point. I am at Cedar Point every day and I mostly work with kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade. This school year is my 6th year as a school counselor. I have worked at several schools in Prince William County. Outside of school, I teach dance classes at Lyrique Dance and love being outside with my Golden Retriever, Penny! I am looking forward to a great year with everyone.
In November, school counselors will be discussing amazing topics in Encore! These topics include career exploration, big problems versus small problems, and growth mindset.
Mrs. Plitt and I are happy to help, so please reach out with any concerns.
Creative Learning in the Tech Lab
Students at Cedar Point have the unique opportunity to experience the Tech Lab throughout the year, spending the day collaborating with classmates to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) activities, challenges and project-based learning. They are able to experiment with coding, building circuits and innovating, while creatively tinkering, playing (and making mistakes!) to stretch their minds and build confidence.
Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students visited the Tech Lab in October to solve problems as scientists and engineers!
3rd grade project - Your school project is due tomorrow, but you waited too late to finish it. You need (but don't have any) glue, so you try to make your own.
4th grade project - You are stranded on a deserted island and are in need of help. Write a letter pleading to be rescued. Can you design and create a waterproof container to send your letter into the waves?
5th grade project - The Tech Lab has received a shipment of mixed material waste from the PWC recycling center. The mixture contains iron filings, salt and sand. They need to be separated so they can be recycled properly.
We look forward to welcoming our friends in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade over the next month!
News from Gifted Education
During the first quarter, each homeroom class in 1st-3rd grade participated in enrichment lessons with Mrs. Brazier, Cedar Point’s Gifted Education and Talent Development teacher.
In 1st grade, students honed critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills as they worked together in small groups to put together jigsaw puzzles without a guiding picture. Each student had a set of puzzle pieces that fit into the overall puzzle, and they communicated information about each piece (corner piece, edge piece, color, pattern, etc.) in order to work with group members to make connections.
The 2nd grade students sharpened their visual-spatial skills as they learned to solve Q-Bitz puzzles (pictured). Q-Bitz puzzles are composed of 16 cubes that have a different pattern on each face. Students rotate the cubes and place them in the wooden game board to match the pattern on the selected card. Each second grade classroom was given two gameboards and a set of cards to continue practice.
Our 3rd grade students were introduced to the world of analogies. They practiced finding the relationship between the words, pictures, or numbers in order to solve verbal, visual-spatial, and number analogies. As part of the lesson, each homeroom class identified and practiced solving analogies with the following relationships: synonyms, antonyms, homophones, part/whole, user/object, and type/description.
Mrs. Brazier updates her Enrichment Padlet each week. All Cedar Point students can access the Padlet via Clever, or from the following website address: https://padlet.com/braziesc/enrichment_activities_24_25
