Week 31

No Strike!
Great News!
Tuesday, April 14 (5:00 am) Great News Families! We are open for business! Please scroll to the bottom for an updated newsletter for the rest of the week!
Strike Update
While UTLA (United Teachers of Los Angeles) have set a strike date of April 14th, I will not be able to tell you until April 12th or April 13th, possibly, on whether or not schools will be closed on April 14th. The decision to strike or not will be contingent on the outcome of negotiations between all parties. If negotiation goes well, we continue business as usual. School stays open, and students continue to learn. If negotiation does not result in a desirable outcome, then a strike is unavoidable. Schools will most like be closed and I will be sharing grab and go locations as well as facilities that might be babysit your children should you need to work on strike days.
Please be sure to read all emails and text messages from me to have the most current information.
If there is work stoppage, there will be no REQUIRED assignments to be done at home from the school. You will not lose credit and your attendance will not count against you.
If there is a work stoppage, here are some things you can do to support learning at home.
If you have technology at home:
- Have students log onto iReady and work on any lessons they have not completed or continue working on myPath.
- Have students work on any projects that might have been previously assigned by the teachers and is a work in progress.
- Have students log onto Schoology in case there is work/assignments from class students can catch up on.
- Grades 3-5, log onto CAASPP and work on some practice test for the SBA.
If you do not have technology at home (device and/or internet):
- Let your child's teacher know by Monday, 4/13 at 8:00 am, and we can send home a workbook at the end of the school day so students can keep learning.
- Work on the ECO Fest Challenge. Gather objects around the house that can be repurposed to complete a piece of art and fashion. It's a great chance for students to explore their creativity and do something that requires no-screen. Review the challenge below and check out the cool examples. Event sponsored by our ESM teachers, however, ALL Multnomah students are strongly encouraged to participate.
Some examples! Students can bring a piece of art or sculpture to be displayed at the Trash to Art Exhibit AND students can design some cool clothing or article of clothing to be worn and highlighted at our Recyclable Runway Fashion Show.
Congratulations!
iReady Challenges
During the month of March and over the Spring Break we challenged the students to keep learning and growing by completing some teacher assigned iReady Lessons. The following 3 classes earned popsicles for doing an amazing job!
- Mrs. Ramos' class had the most Reading lessons passed for March.
- Ms. Yap's class had the most Math Lessons passed for March.
- Ms. Perez's class had the most lessons completed during Spring break.
March Attendance Winners
For the month of March, we told the students we would select one winner per program to enjoy a McDonald's Happy Meal during lunch for capturing the best attendance for the month of March. Here are our winners!
- Neighborhood School: Ms. Aguilar @ 96.38%
- Gifted Magnet: Mrs. Ortega @ 97.05%
- Science Magnet: Ms. Oran @ 94.08%
Congratulations and we hope to order your happy meals this week if there isn't a strike and next week if there is. For the month of April, the top 3 classes will earn a private screening of the new Mario Galaxy movie.
