Drone Club
Thanks to a NH Department of Education Robotics Grant, GVS is kicking off a Drone Club for students in Grades 4, 5, and 6, with a parent/student event on Monday, November 10th, from 5pm to 6pm in the GVS Gym.
Superintendent Downing attended a Drone Scrimmage at Kearsarge Middle School on Saturday October 18th to learn first-hand how GVS can establish a similar club with its grant funding. Working with KRSD digital-learning specialist Laurie Prewandowski, there will be an informational meeting featuring a mini-competition demo course in the gym. Laurie will bring some of her middle school students. Parent volunteers are needed for this event. If interested in helping, please contact Christine Downing at cdowning@sau75.org.
If you and your student(s) plan to attend, please fill out the interest form located in the Superintendent's newsletter, here.

A message from our Reading Specialist, Mrs. Buckley:
Words, Words, Words
A strong vocabulary is crucial for reading comprehension, effective communication, and academic and professional success. It serves as a foundation for understanding and expressing ideas, with research showing a strong link between vocabulary knowledge and the ability to grasp complex texts and think critically. Building a robust vocabulary through effective instruction and exposure to language is essential for all areas of learning and life.
Importance in communication and learning
Enhances comprehension: A wide vocabulary is essential for reading comprehension. Students need to understand 95-98% of the words in a text to fully grasp its meaning.
Enhances comprehension: A wide vocabulary is essential for reading comprehension. Students need to understand 95-98% of the words in a text to fully grasp its meaning.
Improves expression: Having a rich vocabulary allows individuals to communicate more precisely and effectively in both speaking and writing.
Fosters deeper thinking: Words are the building blocks of thought, so a more extensive vocabulary enables more precise and nuanced thinking and reasoning.
Boosts academic performance: Vocabulary is a strong predictor of academic success. Students with larger vocabularies tend to perform better across all subjects because they can better comprehend what they read and hear.
