McCullough Family Update
September 20, 2026
Good Evening Mustang Families,
We are excited to kick off another great week at McCullough as we begin our first full five-day week with students of the school year! Tomorrow is McCullough Monday, so we encourage all of our Mustangs to wear their favorite McCullough gear and show their Mustang pride as we start the week strong!
As we continue settling into the school year, this full week gives us an important opportunity to strengthen routines, build positive habits, and remain focused on learning. We are proud of the progress our students have made during these first few weeks and look forward to continuing to build a school community where every Mustang feels supported, challenged, and encouraged to succeed.
Let’s make it a great five-day week as we continue to be Champions for Every Student! Please review this week’s Family Update for important information, reminders, and upcoming events at McCullough.

Thank You for Attending Open House
Thank you to all of our families who joined us last week for our McCullough’s Got Goals Parent Meeting & Open House! Families who attended should have received their student’s ELA and Math Benchmark Reports when visiting their teachers. If you were unable to attend, reports will be sent home with students this week. We encourage you to review the results with your student and discuss their goals for the year. The Parent Meeting presentation is also linked below for your reference.
Backpack Program
At McCullough, we are committed to supporting our students both inside and outside of the classroom. Through our Weekend Backpack Program, participating students receive a bag of food items to take home each week to help provide additional support over the weekend. Families who would like their student to participate are encouraged to contact Mr. James Thomas, our Communities In Schools Site Coordinator, at James.Thomas@colonial.k12.de.us or 302-429-4000. Participation is confidential, and our goal is to ensure that every Mustang has the support they need to return to school each week ready to learn and thrive.
SABERS Screener
This week, all McCullough students will complete the SAEBERS (Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener). This brief screener helps our school better understand students’ social, academic, and emotional needs and identify areas where additional support may be beneficial. The information gathered will help our team make informed decisions about school wide supports and ensure we are providing students with the resources they need to be successful both academically and socially.
Fall Sports Meet the Coaches Night
Families of our Soccer, Field Hockey, and Cheerleading student-athletes are invited to join us for Meet the Coaches Night on Tuesday, September 22nd, beginning at 5:15 p.m. This will be an opportunity to meet our coaches, learn important information about the upcoming season, and ask any questions you may have. Uniforms will also be distributed during this event. We look forward to seeing our Mustang athletes and families there as we get ready for a great fall sports season!
Save the Date: Back-to-School Skating Party!
McCullough Middle School families, save the date! Join us for a fun-filled Back-to-School Skating Party on Wednesday, October 7, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at Christiana Skating Rink. Come out and enjoy an evening of skating, music, and Mustang fun with our school community! Please see the flyer below for more details and mark your calendars—we hope to see our Mustangs there!
Let's have an amazing week as a school community, and remember MUSTANGS RUN TOGETHER!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Hyacinth Lewis, Principal
