September 2025 CMS Newsletter
Dear Cody Middle School Community,
I hope you and your family enjoyed a wonderful Labor Day weekend and that the transition into the new school year has been a positive one. At Cody Middle School, we are grateful for the strong start to the year and for the support our families have shown thus far. As we settle into the rhythm of the new school year, I want to share a few important updates with you.
School Culture & Opportunities
At Cody Middle School we are proud of the positive culture our students are already helping to build. Through our positive behaviors interventions and support system (PBIS), our advisory activities, our athletic teams, and our various clubs, our students are showing great pride, leadership, and commitment to our core values of respect, responsibility, and kindness. This week we are also excited to launch our Enrichment Classes which will begin on Friday, September 5th. You and your student should have received a signup email with a list of our course descriptions. This semester we are offering a wide array of enrichment classes including, Astronomy & Competitive Engineering, American Red Cross Babysitting Certification, Documentary Filmmaking, Golf & Rockets, Civil Air Patrol, Cody Regional Health Classroom 2 Careers, Flyfishing, Mountain Biking, Introduction into Agricultural Education, and so much more! This unique program, not commonly offered in other Wyoming middle schools, provides students with opportunities to explore new interests, build skills, and extend their learning in creative ways. Our Advisory and WIN Time will continue to play an important role in student growth, providing both academic support and opportunities for connection. Families should also be on the lookout for details about our After-School Tutoring Program, which we hope to begin later this month.
Learning & Instruction
At Cody Middle School, we believe all students can learn at grade level or higher, and we are fortunate to have an exceptional staff who make that vision a reality. Our teachers are all certified educators who bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to their respective classrooms. Many of them have received local, state, and even national recognition for their work, both inside and outside of school, reflecting the dedication and professionalism they bring to our students every day.
Our teachers are also deeply engaged in the Professional Learning Community (PLC) process, working in grade-level and content teams to align curriculum, monitor student progress, and provide timely support or extension as needed. This collaborative approach ensures that no student falls through the cracks and that all students are challenged to achieve at high levels. Families can support this important work by asking students what they are learning and encouraging them to share their goals for this school year.
Clear Communication & Continued Partnership
As the year progresses, if conflicts or concerns ever arise, I encourage all of our families to first assume best intentions and next communicate directly with our staff. Open and respectful communication helps us resolve most issues quickly and positively. Please also allow up to 48 hours for staff to respond to emails, as they work hard throughout the day to support students. I encourage our staff to be present with their families and loved ones after school and on the weekends, so thank you for respecting our 48 hour window to respond.
Please continue to check your email regularly for important information, and please follow our Cody Middle School Facebook page for timely updates, reminders, and celebrations. In addition to this Monthly Principal Newsletter, our grade-level teams, departments, and counseling staff will continue to communicate key information throughout the year in a variety of ways.
Promoting Healthy Routines & Appropriate Technology Use
The middle school years are a time of rapid growth, academically, socially, and emotionally for students. As a reminder to our community, student cell phones are not to be visible or in use while on campus from 7:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Research shows that limiting cell phone use for middle school aged students during the school day reduces distractions, improves focus, and promotes stronger face-to-face social connections. By keeping phones put away, we are creating a healthier learning environment for all staff and students.
To further support healthy habits, Cody Middle School is also piloting a system that disables student Chromebooks from 11:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Our aim is to encourage balance, consistent sleep, and time away from screens. The response from our families has been overwhelmingly positive, and we thank you for your partnership in this effort. Our goal is never to replace the role of parents and guardians, but rather to work alongside you in doing what we believe is best for students, supporting their well-being, growth, and success both in and out of the classroom.
Looking Ahead
Looking ahead, please watch for upcoming opportunities to connect with us, including fall athletics and activities as well as parent-teacher conferences in October. As always, my door is open. Please reach out if you have questions, ideas, or concerns. Together, I hope we can ensure a successful year for every student. As always.

Required Student ID
If your student rides any bus, please make sure they have their Student ID. PCSD6 Transportation will begin strictly enforcing the use of Student IDs on all buses, including in-town field trips. PCSD6 wants to make sure all students are safe and accounted for as well as be able to identify when and where they get on and off the bus. If your student requires a new Student ID, please let the Cody Middle School Front Office know and we will provide you with a replacement card form that you can return to us along with a $5 ID replacement fee. If you have questions, please call the PCSD6 Transportation Department at 307-587-2851.
