Service Day and Staff Appreciation Week!

One of my favorite weeks of the year. Service Day and Staff Appreciation Week.
Where else can you find an opportunity for us to help our kids lean into the importance of thinking of others before self. I look forward to hearing the great stories and connections to the greater Big Walnut Community. Thank you for making Service Day a reality, without the effort and support of our staff, this day would not be possible. A True Staff Appreciation. Thank you!

School Updates
- The 2nd semester Careers Field Trip to DACC is Today Friday 5/2/25. Look for the list of students attending from Mrs. Jones to be shared in the coming weeks.
- Staff Appreciation Week begins on Monday 5/5/25. Looking forward to see what all the BWMS PTO has in store for us. Check out the details above
- The final SOAR cart will be rolling on Wednesday 5/7/25. Get those cards in.
- Service Day is coming - Friday 5/9/25 - it is going to be awesome! We will have all 7th & 8th grade students who need to purchase a sack lunch do that as the school opens for the day and before reporting to 1st period. Additional details about service day procedures will be provided at our quick meeting for all staff members on Wednesday 5/7/25 in the Library.
- Student OMEA Band/Choir/Orchestra contest is Friday 5/9/25 at our High School.
- The next BWMS PTO Meeting is Monday 5/12/25.
- The final BWMS Staff Meeting will be on Tuesday 5/13/25. We will ask that all staff attend the for the first 15 minutes.
- 6th and 7th grade Data Teams will take place during staff planning periods on Wednesday 5/14/25. We will go in order by Team and split the time accordingly for the LA/SS or MA/SC teachers respectfully.
- The final BWMS PAC Meeting is on Wednesday 5/14/25 after school.
- Parent orientation for the incoming 6th grade students will be on Wednesday 5/14/25 at 6PM.
- Eagles Last Flight will be on Thursday 5/15/25. More details to come.
- The 8th grade only dance will be on Thursday 5/15/25 right after school from 2:30 - 4:30. Cost is $5 at the door.
- The Spring Musical Performances from our theatre classes will be on Thursday 5/15/25 at 7PM.
- SOAR Day is Friday 5/16/25. Final details will be shared soon from our SOAR and Student Council.
- Please review the Draft DC/Ohio Trip Coverage for the Last Week of School and share any feedback with Josh. We will finalize the schedule for 5/22/25 at our last PAC meeting.
Other important notes
- Please be sure to complete all PD option requirements by Friday, May 16th.
- Have you completed required Public School Works trainings? Let me know if you have questions.
- Taking your kids outside, please be sure to notify the office before going and either share your cell phone or take a radio. Lastly, we do not prop open doors, if you need access to come back inside, plan time accordingly to come in the front doors or fob in at another location.
Note from HR
Annual reminder for certified staff to complete the form for your PD contact hours by MAY 15. The form will be shut off at that time (if you are including Spring Data teams, please add those to the form prior to that date). Use the form linked below to log your PD hours for the year. You may log:
- In-district PD only
- Hours spent working with a BW instructional coach
- PLC time up to 30 hours, please one entry for the entire number of hours you want to turn in up to 30 hours
- Waiver Days
- Only PD hours completed within the current school year-July 1, 2024-May 15, 2025
- PD Contact Hours Form (CEU's)

SOARing Staff at BWMS!
We are excited to announce that Patrick Blesch and Justin Plummer were nominated by Mrs. Graven as our BWMS SOARing Staff Award Winners this week.
"While many people certainly helped with the 6th grade experience at Camp Nuhop, Patrick and Justin went out of their way to ensure that specific students were able to attend camp. I appreciate their above and beyond efforts for communication with the families to enable a positive day at camp. With their efforts, 2 BWMS 6th grade students created lifelong memories and experienced a ton of new things. Thank you!
