Warhawk Culture - Purpose and Presence
Every Monday morning, our WCHS administrative team gathers in the Warhawk Room to get our mind right for the week ahead. While we spend time on the "nuts and bolts" of running a high school, the heart of our conversation always returns to our Warhawk Culture and our Blueprint. We are firm believers that we cannot lead others effectively unless we are constantly sharpening our own leadership skills within our "20 square feet."
To keep our perspectives fresh, we often dive into leadership articles, books and podcasts, reflecting on how they impact us personally. This week, Mrs. Smith shared a powerful excerpt from the book titled Lead from Who You Are, by Dr. Joe Sanfelippo. In it, Dr. Sanfelippo outlines three "rhythms" of leadership:
WHO You Are Before WHERE You Are (Identity)
Show Up on Purpose (Presence)
Create Rhythms (Sustainability)
While all three points sparked great dialogue, our team spent the most time on the second rhythm: Show Up on Purpose.
Dr. Sanfelippo writes, "Leadership doesn’t live in announcements or initiatives. It lives in moments—the hallway conversations, the follow-up after a hard meeting, the pause that says, "I see you."
This hit home for us because it aligns perfectly with our focus on E + R = O. We know that every interaction we have is an Event (E) for someone else. Our Response (R) to a situation—whether it’s a quick "good morning" in the hall or a thoughtful check-in with a struggling student—creates an Outcome (O) for our school culture.
Our goal is to be intentional, ensuring that our "R" creates a positive "E" for you and our students. Leadership isn't just about the "big" moments on stage; it’s about making sure every member of this school community feels seen, heard, and valued in the small, ordinary moments of the day.
Culture is shaped by what we practice, permit and promote. As we move through this week, I’d love to hear from you.

Which of the three rhythms resonates most with you right now?
How does "Showing Up on Purpose" manifest in your classroom, your home, or your daily life as a Warhawk?

Thank you for all you do to lead within your 20 square feet. Let’s make it a great week!
