SP East Band Updates
February 2, 2026
The Wayward Ensemble visited the Concert Band Last Week
Last Thursday, the Wayward Ensemble visited the East concert band. The Wayward ensemble combines brass chamber music and storytelling, highlighting the fundamental connections between music, people, and story. After a performance of their show, Unless, students worked with the group to develop ways to bring storytelling to the concert band's music.
The concert band has commissioned a new piece of music by composer Embree Way that is based on a book by a 6 year old from Portage, Wisconsin named Paisley. The result is a piece of music titled The Adventures of Paisley and Milo, a tale about Paisley and her cat Milo. Paisley will join us at our March concert for the performance. We hope our Wayward Ensemble experience can help us bring Paisley's story to life!
Solo Projects
All band students have chosen a solo for study. As we begin second semester students have two options to perform and work with clinicians on their solos.
1. SP East Solo Night - Thursday, February 12, 4:00-7:00 p.m. at SP East High School. Students that have chosen this option can sign-up for a time on the white board in the band room. Students may choose any available time that works for them. You stop in and play your solo for a clinician and they will help your keep improving. Think of it as a mini lesson.
2. SP Solo/Ensemble Festival - Saturday, February 14 at Patrick Marsh Middle School. Students choosing this option have already registered. The schedule for solo/ensemble will be posted in the front of the band room this week. The schedule for solo/ensemble is available here.
Please email Mr. Mesner with any questions.
Solo/Ensemble Festival - Volunteers Needed!
We are looking for volunteers to help make our Solo/Ensemble Festival at Patrick Marsh Middle School on Saturday, February 14 a success. If you have some time available on that day and can help support students at the festival please take a look at this sign up. Thank you!
