AE Weekly Newsletter

We're celebrating A-C Homecoming this week! Please see the themes for dress days below.
Specials Grading Reminders
Last year, as we were updating report cards to better reflect students' mastery of standards, updates were also made to the grading of specials classes. Graded specials classes include physical education, music, art, library, STEAM, and band in fifth and sixth grade. Grades will be provided each semester (marking periods two and four) and will be available for review at any time through PowerSchool's Parent Portal. The following scale will be used in each of our specials class to provide feedback on a student's performance:
4 - EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS: Student consistently and independently exceeds grade-level standards.
3 - PROFICIENT: Student is consistently and independently meeting grade-level standards.
2 - DEVELOPING: Student is inconsistent in meeting grade-level expectations independently. Support is necessary for success.
- 1 - EMERGING: Student is not yet able to meet grade-level expectations independently. High levels of support are needed for success.
You may notice that a percentage grade is still visible on the PowerSchool Parent Portal. This percentage correlates to the scale above, but will not be visible on the report card. It also doesn't represent a traditional letter grade like the other grades on the report card.
If you have any questions, please reach out!

Board Meeting Information
We want to let you know about a change in how you can watch school board meetings. Going forward, we will no longer be live-streaming the board meetings, but we will still be recording each meeting and posting the video on our website, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to watch at their convenience. Each recording will be available on the district’s website until the next school board meeting. The public is always able to attend school board meetings in person at the Annville-Cleona District Office.

SchoolCafe Account Information
Did you know that besides funding students' lunch accounts online, SchoolCafe has so much more to offer? Parents can fund student lunch accounts, view menus, view student purchases, and even place restrictions on student lunch accounts for a la carte purchasing. A la carte items include ice cream, snacks, specialty drinks, and teas, or anything else that does not qualify as a full meal.
To add restrictions to the account, families need to have created a SchoolCafe account. Once you log in on the left-hand side under the dashboard, you will see a menu item for purchase restrictions. If you click on purchase restrictions, it will take you to a page that allows you to set restrictions for à la carte items only. You can restrict which day of the week purchases can be made, the number of items per pay, or set a daily, weekly, or monthly maximum spend amount. All snack items at AE have increased in price by $.25 this year. Please be mindful of this increase when updating your child's account.

School Spotlight
It's been a busy week at AE! See below for some of the events and learning that have taken place!
Near the end of last school year, Nora Wentling competed in a 'mini sagas' writing contest through Young Writers USA and recently received a letter stating that she was selected for publication along with other winners. The book will be published in November. Congratulations, Nora!
Students in Mrs. Bahler's classroom have been using opportunities for collaboration to learn from one another. Here they are providing peer tutoring to strengthen math skills!
Our students continue to work hard and follow the Dutchmen Way. They are earning Dutchmen Dollars to purchase items from our school store, including Dutchmen Champion Experiences!
Students in Ms. Brown's classroom were learning about fall leaves and completed a leaf rubbing!
Big Brothers Big Sisters kicked off at AE. During this time, third through sixth-grade students get to learn and connect with ACHS students. They will continue to meet every other week throughout the rest of the year!
Students in Mrs. Wasilewski's sixth-grade social studies classes are learning about United States geography. Here they are sorting states into different regions of the U.S.
Pathways for Effective Communication
Directing questions and/or concerns to the appropriate person(s) encourages greater collaboration and streamlines the process of answering questions, alleviating concerns, and ensuring that we are all “on the same page”. Please use the document, linked here, to help identify your first contact (and additional points of contact if necessary).
