Our mission at William C. "Nemo" Herrera Elementary School is to provide a learning environment that is positive, safe and caring; a fun place to learn and grow.

Happy fall, Herrera families! As we step into this new season, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued partnership and support throughout the school year so far. Your involvement, encouragement, and care make such a difference in the success and happiness of our students.

October was filled with learning, laughter, and community events, and we are so proud of all that our Polar Bears have accomplished. As we move through November, our focus turns to gratitude, growth, and giving. We encourage you to take time with your children to talk about kindness, responsibility, and appreciation, values that guide our work every day.

This is also the time of year when we begin preparing for mid-year assessments. We look forward to seeing the wonderful growth our students are making. Please help us by ensuring your child is well-rested, arrives on time each day, and continues reading at home for at least twenty minutes each evening.

As the holidays approach, we will have several exciting events on campus, including our Thanksgiving luncheon and other family celebrations. Be sure to check our calendar of events on our website and school notices for updates and schedules.

Thank you for being an essential part of the Herrera community. Together, we make every step count for our Polar Bears. Wishing you and your family a warm and wonderful fall season.

The Weather is Changing:

As the weather begins to change, our mornings are getting chillier. Please make sure your scholar comes to school with an appropriate jacket or sweater to stay warm during arrival, recess, and dismissal.

This is also the time of year when our lost and found begins to fill up quickly. To help us return items to their owners, please label your child’s jacket or sweater with their name and grade level. This small step makes it much easier for us to reunite lost clothing with its owner.

Thank you for helping us keep our Polar Bears warm, comfortable, and ready to learn each day.

Attendance Matters!

Every school day counts at Herrera Elementary. When students are present, they are learning, growing, and connecting with their teachers and classmates. Regular attendance builds confidence and helps students stay on track for success.

We understand that illnesses and emergencies happen, but please make every effort to have your child at school on time each day. Even missing a day or two can make it harder for students to keep up with lessons and routines.

Thank you for supporting good attendance habits and helping your child make every step count. Together, we can ensure our Polar Bears are present, prepared, and ready to learn every single day!

¡Feliz otoño, familias de Herrera! Al comenzar esta nueva temporada, quiero tomar un momento para agradecerles por su continua colaboración y apoyo durante el año escolar. Su participación, ánimo y cuidado marcan una gran diferencia en el éxito y la felicidad de nuestros estudiantes.

Octubre estuvo lleno de aprendizaje, alegría y eventos comunitarios, y estamos muy orgullosos de todo lo que nuestros Osos Polares han logrado. A medida que avanzamos en noviembre, nuestro enfoque se centra en la gratitud, el crecimiento y el acto de dar. We hope you're having a great school year so far!

Daily attendance is essential for your child’s learning and success. When students attend school every day, they build strong routines, keep up with lessons, and feel more connected to their classmates and teachers.

As a friendly reminder, a maximum of seven excused absences is allowed without official documentation. The justification of absences is at the discretion of the Principal. Therefore, please note that sending an email to report an absence does not guarantee that the absence will be excused. To report an absence email to: herrera_notes@episd.org

La asistencia diaria es esencial para el aprendizaje y el éxito de su hijo/a. Cuando los estudiantes asisten a la escuela todos los días, desarrollan rutinas sólidas, se mantienen al día con las lecciones y se sienten más conectados con sus compañeros y maestros.

Como recordatorio amistoso, se permite un máximo de siete ausencias justificadas sin documentación oficial. La justificación de las ausencias queda a discreción del director/a. Por lo tanto, tenga en cuenta que enviar un correo electrónico para reportar una ausencia no garantiza que la ausencia sea justificada. We love welcoming your children each morning and keeping our campus safe and calm. To help us do both, please follow these reminders:

• All visitors go directly to the front office to sign in, no matter how short the visit
• A valid photo ID is required at the door for every visitor
• Students are dropped off at the door

Please know your child will not be alone. Staff members are stationed at entrances and along hallways to greet students and guide them to class, breakfast, or their program. If a student needs extra help, we will walk with them.

These procedures follow safety measures from the Texas Education Agency, which we are required to follow. They also give students a chance to build independence, confidence, and the routines they need to navigate school successfully.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep everyone safe and supported. If your child needs a specific arrival accommodation, please let us know so we can assist.

Nos encanta recibir a sus hijos cada mañana y mantener nuestro campus seguro y tranquilo. Para ayudarnos a lograr ambos objetivos, por favor sigan estos recordatorios:

• Todos los visitantes deben ir directamente a la oficina principal para registrarse, sin importar cuán breve sea la visita
• Se requiere una identificación con foto válida en la puerta para cada visitante
• Los estudiantes deben ser dejados en la entrada
