Walk with Sidener in the Broad Ripple Lights Up Parade This Weekend
All Sidener Academy students, families and staff are invited this Saturday, December 7, to walk in the Broad Ripple Village Lights Up Parade! You can bring your family, glow sticks, light up necklaces, scooters, strollers, or wagons lit up with battery operated lights or glow sticks. The PTA will provide extra glow sticks to wear and candy to pass out during the parade. Dress for the weather!
Meet our Sidener Academy group by 4:15 pm in the staging area of the of the Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Home parking lot (1305 Broad Ripple Ave). Park on side streets south of Broad Ripple Avenue (62nd Street) and walk to the parking lot. Look for the red Sidener Academy Banner to find the group. Check in with PTA Treasurer, Carolyn Svirsky. If you need help finding the group, you can call or text her at 812-340-9996.
At 4:30pm, we will follow organizers to our starting location. Please be sure to arrive no later than 4:15pm. All Sidener staff and families are welcome to join! Students must be accompanied for the entire parade by a parent, guardian or supervising adult. Students may NOT be dropped off for this event.
The parade begins at dusk with kick off at 5 PM. Having battery-operated lights, lighted necklaces or glow sticks allows for people to see you during the parade. You can invite your friends and neighbors to watch the parade along Broad Ripple Avenue from the Monon to College Ave and along the Canal from College to Guilford.
This event is entirely outdoors and will last approximately 75 minutes from staging to the end. Please wear warm coats, hats, gloves and umbrellas if needed. Students may walk or ride scooters with lights attached or push/pull younger siblings in wagons or strollers. They will also be able to hand out candy and wave to parade attendees.
We hope you can join for this fun Sidener Academy tradition of sharing our pride as Red Hawks with the community! If you have questions, please contact Becky at president@sideneracademypta.org
Sidener Student Council Program Kicks Off
Sidener Academy is starting a Student Council program which will officially begin after winter break. Information about this opportunity has already been presented to the 4th and 5th grade students, and those interested in participating will receive packets to complete and return.
Packet Submission Deadline: Completed packets must be submitted to Ms. Fillenwarth by Tuesday, December 12 to be considered.
Interviews: During the week of December 9-13, students will participate in brief interviews with Dr. Penn and Mrs. Carter in the morning. These interviews, along with the completed packets, will help determine the most suitable candidates for each position.

Help the Can Lady Recycle Holiday Lights
Don't throw those old holiday lights and/or extension cords in the trash! Bring them into school and donate them to the Can Lady for recycling! It helps the environment and supports the Can Lady in purchasing supplies and items for our classrooms!
Student Service Team is Collecting Gift Cards
Each year during the Holidays the Student Service Team collects gift cards to support some of our families in need. These gift cards help to provide food over the long break from school as well as spreading some holiday cheer by providing an opportunity to buy gifts.
If you are able, please consider donating gift cards to this cause. Cards to grocery stores or stores like Wal-Mart are the most helpful for supporting the needs of our families. These donations can be left in the front office with Mrs. Drummer. The Student Service Team will divide out the donations among approximately 18 families and send these home the week of December 16th.
