Carter's Corner
As we gear up for the new week, I just have to pause and celebrate the amazing things that happened at Lipscomb last week! We kicked it off with an appreciation parade for our incredible custodial staff, who said they’ve 'never felt this appreciated before!'
Then, to top it all off, our Multicultural Committee and PTA threw an absolutely fantastic Hispanic Heritage Night. It was a beautiful celebration of the cultures that make us who we are, and it brought our entire community together for some fun, food, and fellowship. I’m already excited for how this event will grow in the years to come! Thank you to everyone who joined in these events—you truly made them special.
Oh, and yes, I got attacked by silly string (photo included for your amusement) Friday for my birthday. To those responsible… I know your birthdays too! 😉
Now, we’ve got a short but mighty week ahead. Let’s give these next three days our all before we enjoy a well-earned Fall Break. See you out there!
With Pride,
Mr. Carter
Help us meet our goal! 😬
- Alright, folks, we've got a bit of a situation—our Family Engagement Survey has only 8 submissions so far! Our goal? A strong 40 by October 21st! Now, I won’t name names, but let’s just say our friendly rivals down the street already have 45… 😏
- So, can you help us catch up (and maybe even pass them)? It only takes 5 minutes! Click HERE and let’s hit that goal together!
Standards Mastery Checks in Grades 3-5
- Monday, Oct 7 will include Standards Mastery Check (end-of-quarter assessment) in Reading for students in Grades 3-5.
- Tuesday, Oct 8 will include Standards Mastery Checks in Math for Grades 3-5.
- Both assessments will be 1/3 of the STAAR Exam and will begin promptly at 8:30am. These are not district assessments, but will provide you, your child, and their teacher needed insights to drive instruction as we approach Quarter 2.
- Please help support the work our teachers are doing by:
- Ensuring your child gets to bed early
- Eats a good breakfast (if your student does not eat breakfast at school)
- Is on time and present at school (the makeup window will close Oct. 9)!
Recess Teacher Coverage
- We invite parents to volunteer and give our dedicated teachers a well-deserved break from recess duty! Our teachers work tirelessly for your children each day, and there’s no better way to say "thank you" than by giving them the gift of time!
- Sign Up to relieve a teacher from lunch or recess duty! (ACCESS CODE: WLESPRIDE)
- You must be cleared through the District Volunteer System prior to signing up.
🎈Wish Your Student a Happy Birthday! 🎂
- Starting on October 15th, the Lipscomb Student Ambassadors invite you to wish your child a Happy Birthday by having their name displayed on the school marquee on their birthday along with and a birthday message announced over the morning announcements that can be submitted by a student's family member!
- If you would like to participate, the Student Ambassadors are asking for a $20 donation that will go directly to the Student Ambassadors Club this school year.
- A form and details on how to send the donation will be available in next week's Compass!
Dismissal Update🏀
No more STAIRS! Starting Monday, October 7, we invite parents of students in 3rd-5th back into to our renovated gym for dismissal!
Dallas ISD Community Listening Event
The Board of Trustees is hosting a series of Community Listening events across the city to hear from parents, students, staff and community members as they prepare to reset Dallas ISD's five-year goals and constraints for 2025-2026.
Everyone is invited to come out and share their vision for Dallas ISD to help guide the process.
Woodrow Wilson will host a listening event this Tuesday, October 8 at 6pm!
Lipscomb Lost & Found
I have noticed a large amount of student clothing that is left around campus and on the playground. Please encourage your student to come home with whatever clothing items they brought to school!
Unclaimed items have been placed in the Cafeteria on gray hanging stands.
Starting this week, we will donate unclaimed clothing to a local shelter each Friday, so please remind your child to look during lunch and claim any items they may be missing!
Fall Parent Conference Night
- Parent conferences will take place the week of October 21-25
- Parent Conferences can take place before school, after school, or during a teacher's planning period.
- You should receive communication from your child's teacher by this Wednesday regarding how they will conduct parent conferences. Please reach out to Principal Carter if you do not receive this information or have any questions.

Dyslexia Awareness Month
"Did You Know?" - Mrs. Nuno (Campus Dyslexia Interventionist)
Letter reversals are not due to ‘seeing’ words backward. It’s mainly caused by problems with directionality and the ability to decipher left and right. Our brains know how to recognize objects. For example, a puppy is a puppy from any direction. This is called mirror invariance. We must unlearn this skill for letters because a stick and a ball one way is not the same as a ball and a stick the other way. This means letters must be stored in our memory differently.
