Principals Message
Happy Thursday DKMS families! It has been a short and busy week here at the middle school.
The results of our Change War are in. As a school we raised $2,379.52. I want to thank our students and families for contributing to this fundraiser! Congratulations to the fifth graders who won the Ice Cream Sundae party for raising the most money! Our goal was to raise $3,000 last week and we did fall a little short. Our wonderful DK PIE group was very proud of our effort and they have decided to cover the rest, which means our students have earned an AWESOME end of the year party with inflatables and treats! I will send out the date and event details in a future newsletter. Thank you all for your support!
Ms. Lindstrom has started a "No Tardies" drawing each week where every student who has no tardies for the week is automatically entered. She did her first drawing today and the winner is AUBREE CURTIS. Aubree will be taking home a brand new Amazon Fire 8 HD tablet! The next winner will be announced on Friday April 12th.
On Wednesday our 8th grade students had the opportunity to go to the MICareer Quest in Grand Rapids. Students met different Southwest Michigan business leaders and got some hands-on experience learning about different careers. Our students did an excellent job representing themselves and our school at Devos Place. Thank you to our staff members who helped chaperone this trip!
In our sports update, the Equestrian Team will be starting practice on Monday April 8, 2024. Practice will be on Monday nights starting on April 8th from about 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Phillips Farm. If you have any questions please reach out to Michelle or Dan Phillips via email at dan.phillips@dkschools.org.
Just a quick reminder that our 5th grade students will be headed to Sherman Lake on Monday April 8, 2024. Students need to bring their luggage to school and they will depart from here around 9:30 am. Please contact your child's teacher or our office at (269) 623-1541 if you have any questions.
When we return to school on Monday April 8, 2024, we will begin preparing to take state assessments (M-Step and PSAT). It is very important that students are getting enough sleep, eating, and coming to school prepared each day to be able to put forth their best effort on these tests. We are asking that students charge their chromebooks each night and bring their chargers to school each day. The testing schedule is as follows:
- Wednesday April 17th: 5th, 6th, 7th Grade are M-STEP Testing. 8th Grade will be taking the PSAT
- Wednesday April 24th: All grades M-STEP Testing
- Wednesday May 1st: 5th grade M-STEP Testing
We understand situations do occur where students are unable to attend school and we will be able to have students take tests on make-up days. We appreciate your efforts in helping get your child to school with charged chromebooks on these important test dates. Please reach out to me if you have any further questions about state testing.
As always, I would like to thank our staff, students, families, and community for their continued support and hard work. I hope everyone has a relaxing, safe, and fun spring break with family and friends. We will see everyone back at school on Monday April 8, 2024!
Just can't hide that PANTHER PRIDE!!!
