NEWS!
Parent/Guardian Survey - Schools of Choice
Please support us by taking a very brief survey about school climate. This survey was created by the state of California in connection with the Met's status as a school of choice. To maintain our status as a school of choice, we are required to collect relevant survey data from parents/guardians on an annual basis. Please select the one answer per row that best describes your point of view. Please complete the survey by March 20, 2026. It should only take a few minutes to complete. Thank you for your support!
PSAT for 10th Graders
The PSAT for 10th graders is on Thursday, March 19, from 8:30 to 12:00. All 10th graders are eligible to take the PSAT free of charge! The PSAT is a valuable experience that will help students gain practice with this format of assessment, and is good preparation for the 11th grade PSAT, as well as the SAT and ACT, which is needed for many college applications.
If the PSAT will conflict with a student's internship schedule on that day, they need to let their mentors know as soon as possible. Students will need to bring their fully-charged school-issued laptops and chargers.
MetUp - Friday, March 20: "Nourish and Flourish"
This Friday we will have our March MetUp! This month we will be focusing on healthy choices that help us Nourish and Flourish!
Students will begin the day in Advisory, followed by a whole-school Pick-Me-Up in G101, including the premier of the Met Media class's Directing Change videos. Student will then enjoy two 1-hour workshops, selecting from these terrific offerings:
- Culinary activity with SDUSD Culinary Department
- Art activity with Dr. Pilkington
- Zines with Lambda Archive
- Downtown Brazilian JiuJistu
- Anxiety and Thought Traps with Ms. Christina from Wellness Together
Lunch and a resource fair will take place from 12:20-1:00, followed by appreciations and dismissal at 1:15 pm. Please plan accordingly for student pickup.
Student Led Conferences - March 25-27
As part of the Met's vision of personalized learning and family engagement, we host Student-Led Conferences (SLC) twice a year at the midpoint of each semester. Our Spring SLCs take place on March 25, 26, 27, which coincides with the release of student Progress Reports on March 24. (In some circumstances, advisors are able to accommodate SLCs on March 23 or March 24; please ask your student's advisor about this.)
SLCs and Progress Reports are a very important opportunity for students to lead a conversation about their goals and growth, and for parents to assess their students’ success and partner with teachers on support strategies if students are struggling, with ample time for improvement before final grades are issued at the end of the semester. These conversations are a crucial part of how we support student learning and connect with families. As such, every student is expected to have at least one parent, guardian, or other close family member in attendance at their SLC.
Advisors are supporting their students on SLC preparations, and have been reaching out to families to schedule a specific date and time for their SLC. Please respond as soon as you can to schedule your student's SLC time. If you will require interpreting services in Spanish, please let your student’s advisor know as soon as possible, so we can plan accordingly.
Because of the importance of SLCs, we are having a modified schedule that week to allow more time during the day for families to attend. Please note the following class schedule for those three days:
Wednesday, March 25 - Classes from 8:30am to 12:25 pm. SLCs may be scheduled from 12:30pm onward.
Thursday, March 26 - Students are expected to continue attending internships. SLCs may be scheduled outside of the student’s internship time.
Friday, March 27 - Classes from 8:30am to 12:25 pm. SLCs may be scheduled from 12:30pm onward.
We look forward to having you join us for your student’s SLCs!
Please refer to these parking directions, which include a link to a parking permit.
SD Met Foundation Family Dinner Night: Wed, March 25, at Luna Grill!
The SD Met Foundation is a parent group that raises money for teacher needs and student events such as Grad Night. Join us on March 25 (first day of SLCs!) at Luna Grill to learn about our plans for Spring Cleaning in your students’ classrooms, as well as our goals for supporting fun events! We would love to see more families and hear your ideas for enriching the Met high school experience. (20% of net sales will benefit the SD Met Foundation.)
Sexual Health Education for Biology Students - Parent Notification
As part of our district's requirement for comprehensive sexual health education, we will be implementing the district's curriculum in our Biology classes after we return from Spring Break. Please see the following letter from our Biology teacher, Ms. Kohmescher:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Beginning April 6 and continuing through April 10, reproductive health topics will be integrated into our Biology curriculum. If you would like more information about the district-approved curriculum, please visit the following page:
https://www.sandiegounified.org/departments/sexual_health_education/parent_and_family_resources
Parents and guardians may excuse their student from reproductive health instruction for this school year by providing an electronic, printed, or hand-written note to Ms. Kohmescher or Mr. Fung. The note should state that you are excusing your child from the instruction, include your child’s name, and be signed by a parent or guardian. No explanation or reason is required.
If you have any questions about the content or lessons, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you for your continued support,
Ms. Kohmescher

Senior Portrait Update
Senior Portraits - students that have not taken a senior photo yet were sent an email (parents, too) on Mon., 3/9 from cdumas@sandi.net. Please look for this email (check junk/spam folder), as it has updated information on a new photographer and other options to consider. If you are unable to locate this email, please contact Carolyn at cdumas@sandi.net
Financial Aid and Scholarships!
It’s time for our senior students and families to apply for Financial Aid and Scholarships for the 2026-2027 school year! The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and California Dream Act Application (CADAA) are now open.
Our Senior Advisors and Mr. Moravec have already assisted students with setting up their FSA ID for the FAFSA application. Parents/Guardians will also need to create their own FSA ID in order to help complete the application for their student. For more information and support, please visit this site and use this application link to access the FAFSA application.
No matter what pathway your student is pursuing, there is financial aid available to help. We strongly encourage all families to apply for financial aid, regardless of income. Completing the FAFSA or CADAA is a requirement for many higher education institutions, especially if your student is seeking merit-based scholarships. Additionally, submitting the FAFSA or CADAA is necessary to be considered for the California Promise Grant at California Community Colleges.
Scholarship Opportunities: Mr. Moravec regularly posts scholarship search links and information for seniors in the Class of 2026 College and Postsecondary Info Google Classroom. Check the top post for the latest links. Don’t miss out on these important opportunities to support your student’s future!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS
Attendance Reporting Form
Regular and timely attendance at school and internships is one of the most important factors for your student’s success! Students who are regularly tardy or absent from one or more classes are missing valuable learning time and are much more likely to fall behind and struggle in their studies. As such, we will be contacting parents/guardians for your support if your student is struggling with attendance.
This year, we are implementing an Attendance Reporting Google Form linked here. This will allow parents to quickly and simply report a student absence. Please use this form any time your student will be absent for any part of the day (including whole day absences, as well as late arrival and early dismissal), as well as for multi-day absences (e.g., vacations, illness).
If you have any questions about attendance, please contact us at sdmet@sandi.net.
CaliforniaColleges.edu - Check it out!
The Met is proud to be part of SDUSD’s partnership with CaliforniaColleges.edu, which is California’s official college, career, and financial aid planning and application platform. It provides lessons and tools to help students discover goals for life after high school, and make plans to achieve them. It provides a system for students to launch and manage California State University (CSU), University of California (UC), Community College (CC) and financial aid applications. Counselors and families will be able to monitor and support student’s college and financial aid application progress and completion.
The Met's implementation plan will begin with the class of 2026 where students will register and launch their California State University (CSU), University of California (UC) and Community College (CC) applications through CaliforniaColleges.edu. The Met's Counseling Team will work with staff and students to introduce and educate students on how to launch their financial aid (FAFSA or CADAA) and college applications in the fall of 2026.
We encourage all Met students and parents to register for an account (parents can add multiple SDUSD students to monitor their progress) and view the tutorials for college and career planning tools for all grade levels. Students will need to register through their district Clever account, by clicking on the CCGI Tile.
You can find more information about this amazing CaliforniaColleges.edu tool and how to utilize its platform. Learn more here.
Food on Campus - FREE School Meals for All Students!
- School breakfast is available in the office from 8:00am – 8:25am daily.
- M/W/F lunch from 12:15pm – 12:45pm
- T/Th lunch available at 11:30am dismissal
In addition, we always have fresh fruit and snacks on hand in the office for students to pick up for a quick energy boost throughout the day. Please encourage your students to take advantage of FREE food on campus!
Students are always welcome to bring lunch from home as another option.
Please note: Mesa College is now back in full session. Students purchasing food in the Mesa Commons need to be mindful of the longer wait times for food so they will not be tardy to their classes, especially Period 4 after lunch. Waiting for Mesa Commons lunch service is NOT A VALID EXCUSE for being tardy to class!
Students are NOT allowed to have food delivered from delivery services (such as DoorDash, GrubHub, Uber Eats, and similar apps). Though we are located on a college campus, the Met is a CLOSED campus, and students are not allowed to leave campus during school hours without permission, nor are food deliveries or other unauthorized visitors allowed. Please ensure that your students bring food or lunch money so that they can eat well, be healthy, and stay focused on their studies!
Chromebooks
Please remind your students to bring their FULLY CHARGED Chromebooks to school every day! Our district’s 1-to-1 Chromebook policy enables every student to have a Chromebook checked out to them exclusively. This means that every student can take their Chromebook home every day, and it is their responsibility to bring them back to school charged and ready to work on every day. If your student forgets to bring their Chromebook, we unfortunately do not have extras to loan out. Your student will be asked to call home to ask for their Chromebook to be brought to school. If it cannot be brought to school by parent/guardian, the student will be able to work on assignments in an alternative format.
Daily Schedule
Please review the regular daily schedule for the school year. All students will attend classes on campus from 8:30am to 3:15pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Tuesdays and Thursdays are dedicated to internships, and ALL students must attend school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30am to 11:30am. NEW students will participate in the Met Gateway Program on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while RETURNING students will work with their advisor on finding an internship placement. As soon as a student has secured an internship, including a signed contract with the mentor, the student may start attending internship on Tuesdays and Thursdays instead of coming to campus. Our Gateway students are eligible to begin their internships after the conclusion of Gateway, as soon as September 23.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up Information
Student drop-off and pick-up is allowed in Lot 1 in the pull-out area in front of I-400, near the bottom of the main staircase. You may also use other areas along Mesa College Circle where there are curb cuts to allow cars to pull off the road. Please DO NOT attempt to drive up to the SD Met building for drop-off or pick-up. If you plan to park and visit the Met, you may park in a 1-hour visitor spot (limited) or use pay stations to purchase an hourly parking permit in Lot 1.
Student Parking Permits
For students who drive to campus and wish to have a parking permit for the semester, the application form is available in the front office. Please bring the completed form with the payment of $40 cash (no card payments are accepted at this time) to the Mesa College police office at Q-100 between 8am and 5pm Mon-Thurs (closed Fridays). The Mesa College is no longer issuing a physical parking permit to keep in your vehicle. Instead, your vehicle will be registered virtually in their new online system for the semester.
PowerSchool Parent Portal
The PowerSchool Parent Portal provides you with access to your student’s grades and current progress. If you need support with setting up your PowerSchool Parent Portal access, please contact Mihoko Ikeuchi at mikeuchi@sandi.net
School Tours
We are continuously enrolling new students. Please share this tour schedule with interested families. Encourage them to visit our school website to sign up for the next tour.
Senior Early Dismissal Policy
As part of supporting our 12th graders in having diverse opportunities for success, the Met has an early dismissal policy for qualified seniors. Students and parents/guardians must submit this Senior Early Dismissal application and await approval by the principal before any early dismissal can begin. Please note that the earliest that seniors may be dismissed is 12:10pm, and early dismissal does not apply on MetUp days (one Friday a month) or other special events that require student attendance until the end of the school day. Please refer to this Senior Early Dismissal Policy document for more details.
