HEART/Peer Mediation

Winners Announced for the 2026

JAMS/APPP/OPMP 3rd Annual Online

Peer Mediation Tournament

The International Online Peer Mediation Tournament is made possible through the partnership of the JAMS Foundation, the Association of Peer Program Professionals (APPP), and the Online Peer Mediation Platform (OPMP).

The JAMS Foundation supports innovative programs that advance conflict resolution, access to justice, and peaceful problem-solving in schools and communities around the world. Through its generous support, the Foundation has helped expand opportunities for young people to learn and practice communication, empathy, collaboration, and mediation skills.

The Association of Peer Program Professionals (APPP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting excellence in peer helping, peer mediation, peer leadership, and peer support programs. APPP provides training, resources, networking opportunities, and professional recognition for educators and youth-serving professionals who empower young people to make a positive difference in their schools and communities.

The Online Peer Mediation Platform (OPMP) was created to expand access to peer mediation through technology. OPMP provides training, resources, and opportunities for students and educators to develop and demonstrate mediation skills in virtual environments, connecting youth from diverse communities and countries through the shared goal of peaceful conflict resolution.

Together, these organizations proudly sponsored the 3rd Annual JAMS/APPP/OPMP International Online Peer Mediation Tournament. This unique event brought together talented elementary, middle school, high school, and international peer mediators from across the United States and around the world to demonstrate their conflict resolution skills in a series of online mediation rounds. Participants were evaluated by experienced conflict resolution professionals and educators on their ability to facilitate dialogue, build understanding, manage conflict, and help disputants develop mutually acceptable solutions.

More than a competition, the tournament serves as a learning experience that strengthens communication, leadership, empathy, cultural understanding, and problem-solving skills. Students gain valuable experience that prepares them for success in school, future careers, and their roles as leaders in their communities.

We proudly recognize the champions of the 3rd Annual International Online Peer Mediation Tournament:

Elementary School Champion

Cresson Elementary School

Norwalk, California, USA

Middle School Champion

Walker Mill Middle School

Capitol Heights, Maryland, USA

High School Champion

Berea-Midpark High School

Berea, Ohio, USA

International Champion

Colegio San Carlos Middle School

Bogotá, Colombia

We congratulate all of this year's participants, coaches, coordinators, judges, and supporters whose dedication made the tournament a tremendous success. We especially commend our champions for demonstrating exceptional mediation skills, professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to peaceful conflict resolution.

We are excited to announce that planning is already underway for next year's International Online Peer Mediation Tournament. We encourage schools, peer mediation programs, and youth organizations from around the world to join us for an even bigger and better event. Whether your students are experienced mediators or new to peer conflict resolution, the tournament offers an engaging opportunity to learn, grow, compete, and connect with peers who share a commitment to creating more peaceful schools and communities.

We look forward to welcoming returning and new teams as we continue to build the next generation of peacemakers, one mediation at a time.

Ohio Direct Admission Participation Authorization Letter

Our district is participating in Ohio Direct Admission, which allows students to find out which participating colleges they meet admissions requirements for based on their academic records. To identify colleges and universities where students qualify for direct admission, the school/district will upload and/or confirm a student education record data (e.g., grade point average (GPA), test scores) into a secure portal where it will be matched against participating colleges and universities’ admission criteria. No student information will be sent to any college/university during this matching step.

By participating in the Ohio Direct Admission Program, the student and the parent or legal guardian hereby expressly acknowledge and authorize the student’s school or school district to disclose the student’s educational records—including GPA, standardized test scores, and other required academic or demographic information—to the Ohio Department of Higher Education (“ODHE”) and its authorized agents for the exclusive purpose of determining eligibility for, and administering, the Program.

By Participating, the student and the parent or legal guardian further acknowledges and agrees that:

  1. All educational records will be collected, transmitted, stored, and used in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and all other applicable federal and state privacy laws.
  2. The Participant (student and parent/legal guardian) may request the opportunity to review the student’s educational information prior to its submission by emailing the Records Administrative Assistant, Christy Belford at cbelford@bereaschools.org by September 11, 2026.
  3. The educational records disclosed under this authorization shall be used solely for program-related purposes and shall not be sold, disclosed, or used for any unrelated purpose by ODHE, the school district, or any third party.
  4. If a student is interested in claiming a direct admission offer, they may elect to send limited information from the portal to an institution. No information will be shared from the portal without a student’s explicit consent.

Participation in the Program is voluntary. Participants who choose to participate must opt in by completing the form below by September 25, 2026. Participants who do not wish to participate in the Program do not need to complete the form. For more information on the Program, please visit highered.ohio.gov/direct-admission. A full list of participating colleges and universities can be found HERE.

Attention Seniors: The Ohio Department of Health School Immunization Requirement now includes two doses of Meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine to be administered before a student enters the twelfth grade. Therefore, your rising twelfth-grader will need to show proof of having received the Meningococcal vaccine. Currently there are no school entry requirements for Meningococcal B vaccine. The recommended MCV4 minimum interval is at least eight (8) weeks between dose one and dose two. If the first dose of MCV4 was administered on or after the 16th birthday, a second dose is not required.

Please submit proof of vaccinations to the clinic as soon as possible!
