This school year has proven to be challenging to educators throughout the country. For one, schools are experience staff and substitute shortages. Then there are other challenges such as providing lessons to quarantining students, and compensating for last year's learning loss.

The DBQ Project is here to help. To help ease the burden on teachers, we have put together some shorter turnkey lessons, which focus primarily on document analysis (and not essay writing). Directions and scaffolding have been embedded, making the lessons easy for teachers to assign and students to complete independently. Also, a document analysis rubric has been added.

Lesson Description

  • All lessons are derived from the full DBQ units provided in the DBQ Project library.
  • Each lesson feature a background Essay and three documents.
  • Emphasis is placed on close reading and document analysis rather than essay writing.
  • Students are called on to annotate the readings to demonstrate their thinking.
  • A 4-point document analysis rubric is provided.
