Spillane Middle 26-27 (3)
Dear Spillane Parents and Guardians,
What a wonderful start to the 2026–2027 school year! We have absolutely loved welcoming our newest Spartans to Spillane and getting to know our 6th graders. It has also been so much fun seeing our 7th and 8th graders back on campus and seeing just how much they have grown and changed over the summer. Our building is full of smiling faces, and we already know it is going to be a GREAT year!
There is a LOT of important information packed into this newsletter, so please take a few minutes to read through it carefully. We have included information and resources that will help make the school year easier for both you and your student(s).
A few things we especially want you to look for:
Car Rider Procedures: If you will be picking up your student through our car rider line, please be sure to read this section carefully. We have noticed that a few families have looked a little frustrated during dismissal, and this information should help make the process much smoother for everyone. A few minutes of preparation can make a big difference.
Safety Drills: Please note that we will be doing our beginning of the year safety drills this Friday.
Open House: Mark your calendar and learn more about our upcoming Open House on September 3rd.
Home Access Center (HAC): Learn how to get connected so you can have up-to-the-minute access to your student's grades and academic information throughout the year.
VIPS Kickoff Meeting: Find out how you can get involved and volunteer at Spillane.
Sign Language Classes: We are excited to share that CFISD offers opportunities for our families to learn sign language.
And much more!
We are so thankful for the support we receive from our Spillane families. Thank you for helping us start the year on such a positive note and for your continued patience and understanding as we are managing being under construction.
We truly believe we have something special happening at Spillane, and we are so excited for everything this year will bring. Here's to a fantastic 2026–2027 school year!
Warmly,
Jamie Brotemarkle
Principal
Car Rider Information
We would genuinely appreciate it if all parents and guardians of our car riders would take a few minutes to watch our car rider tips and tricks. Please remind any student walking across the street to use the intersection where Officer Pacheco is located. Parents and students cannot walk through our parking lot during arrival and dismissal times for student safety.
Thank you for understanding that we ask cars to pull up in order to unload (morning) and load (afternoon) approximately ten cars at one time. When one car fails to follow directions, it stops the flow and prevents loading a full set of cars at one time. Please do not hesitate to reach out if this does not make sense.

Spillane Code of Conduct 2026-2027
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The 2026–2027 school year is off to a great start! Our Spartans are settling into routines, adjusting to new grade levels, and building connections with staff.
All students attended the required Code of Conduct presentations led by our Assistant Principals. To ensure every student understands our expectations for a successful school year, a copy of the presentation is attached to review with your Spartan. The full CFISD Code of Conduct is available on the CFISD website.
Now that students have had time to acclimate and are aware of campus expectations, we are enforcing key campus policies, including:
- Tardies (Arriving to school after 7:45 AM will only be excused with a doctor note.)
- Student ID badge requirements and fees (Charges for missing/lost badges.)
- Dress code*
* Students will be expected to adhere to the dress code, and those out of compliance will be asked to change.
Additionally, we’re excited to invite you to our Annual Open House on Thursday, September 3rd. Please save the date—more details will be shared in the Spillane newsletter.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We look forward to an amazing year ahead!

Thank you for helping us prepare for another great year at Spillane Middle School!
Personal Communication Devices
Under Texas state law (House Bill 1481), Cypress-Fairbanks ISD (CFISD) requires all personal communication devices to be turned off and stored away in a personal bag or backpack at all times during the school day.
Per CFISD’s Student Code of Conduct, students are not permitted to use any personal communication devices on school property during the school day. The school day is from when a student enters the building until dismissal. This policy remains in effect throughout the entire school day, including during designated breaks, passing periods, and meals.
Simply setting a device to silent or vibrate mode, or using it for texting, does not meet the requirement of being “turned off” and is strictly prohibited. Devices found in violation of the state law will be confiscated. All confiscated devices will have to be picked up by a parent or guardian and will not be released to the student. There are no warnings. Failure to relinquish the personal communication device to school personnel when asked to do so will result in additional disciplinary action.
Please review the law and FAQ below with your student(s) prior to the start of the school year.

Attendance for Credit (The 90% Rule)
In accordance with state law, students must be in attendance for at least 90% of the days a class is offered in order to receive credit or a final grade. This requirement applies regardless of whether absences are excused or unexcused.
*Exception: Students with a documented severe or life-threatening illness may qualify for an exemption through the Attendance Committee review process.
If you have any questions regarding your child’s attendance or how it may impact credit, please reach out to our attendance office.
