CES Weekly Communicator
Issue #5: September 5, 2025
Principal Corner
Dear CES Families,
Thank You!
A big thank you to our PTO and the 5th Grade Committee for hosting our second Breakfast with Buddies today! It was a wonderful way to start the school day, and we are so grateful for the time and effort that went into making it special for our students and families.
Title 1 & PTO meeting:
I hope to see many of you at Tuesday, September 9 at 7 p.m. for our Title 1 and PTO meeting. We will meet in the cafeteria. There is free babysitting!
Staying in the Game Matters!
Just like athletes and teammates depend on one another, our school team depends on every student being present and ready to learn each day. Attendance is one of the most important ways students can “stay in the game” for success. When students miss school—or even come in late—they miss valuable learning time, classroom routines, and opportunities to connect with their classmates.
On-Time Arrival
The first bell rings at 7:55 a.m., and the tardy bell rings at 8:05 a.m.. Please help your child build strong habits by arriving on time each morning. Being on time sets the tone for the entire day, allowing students to start focused, confident, and ready to learn.
Why Attendance Matters
-
Students who attend regularly are more likely to achieve academic success.
-
Good attendance builds responsibility and shows commitment.
-
Being on time helps create a calm, positive start to the day.
Together, we can help every child “stay in the game” by making attendance and punctuality a priority. Take the pledge now to stay in the game at Chapelfield: https://stayinthegame.org/pledge/! Thank you for teaming up with us to make every school day count!
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Nikki Miller

School Counseling Connection with Mrs. Jasin
Hello Families!
Asking children about their day can sometimes lead to one-word answers like ‘fine’ or ‘good.’ To spark deeper conversations and help your child share more about their school day, try asking some of these questions listed above instead.
Don't forget! GRIN has partnered with Chapelfield to offer a "Weekend Snack Pack" program for our students. If you would like to participate, your student will receive a bag of non-perishable food items every Friday to bring home. In order to participate, please contact Mrs. Jasin or your child's teacher.
Best,
Mrs. Jasin

Physical Education with Mr. Scheibeck
Hello CES families!
It's been a fantastic start to the year in PE, with our focus on two important topics: recess and healthy competition.
We believe recess is a crucial part of the school day, not just a break. It's a time for students to be creative, social, and, most importantly, physically active. We've spent the past few weeks teaching students a variety of fun, safe games they can play, including Gaga Ball, Tetherball, and Four Square. Our goal is to empower all students to make their recess time a positive and active experience every day by sharing equipment and including everyone.
We've also been talking a lot about sportsmanship and the importance of healthy competition. While competing is natural, we've emphasized playing fairly, following the rules, and respecting teammates and opponents. Healthy competition helps build character, resilience, and teamwork. We've also had important conversations about how to handle wins and losses. We've discussed the importance of winning with humility and learning to handle a loss with grace. Learning to handle disappointment and show respect for others are key life skills we're working on every day.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us create a fun, safe, and positive learning environment for all our students!
I look forward to teaching your children this year!
Thank you,
Mr. Scheibeck

Stay in the Game Attendance Network
Dear Families,
Do your part in ensuring you get to school on time and ready to learn! If you haven't done so already, take the pledge!
Sincerely,
Nikki Miller and Jen Couch
Attendance Procedures
Pursuant to House Bill 410, student attendance is calculated in hours. This includes absences that have been identified as both excused and unexcused by the school, as well as planned absences. Being late or tardy to school does calculate into the total hours absent.
If your child is going to be absent for any portion of the school day, please notify the school. You may report an absence by using our Online Absence Reporting available in the Parent Portal in Infinite Campus. To enter a request follow these simple steps:
1.Log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account.
2. Select your child’s profile.
3. Navigate to the Absence Request section.
4. Fill in the required information, including the date and reason for the absence.
5. Submit your request.
You will be able to view the status of your request using the View Requests button.
You may also call Chapelfield at 614-478-5575 or email our secretary at gilzows@gjps.org.
Medical excuses from a doctor can be submitted to Stephanie Gilzow, our school secretary, through email (gilzows@gjps.org) or sending in a paper copy.
Parent Phone calls to change transportation
The front office is a busy place the last 30 minutes of school. We ask that parents NOT CALL to make transportation changes after 2 p.m. Please make sure students know your plan of pick up before they come to school.
