Haynes Monthly September

Dear Haynes Families,

It has been a great start to the new school year! We are thrilled to have our students back in the classroom, and I wanted to take a moment to share some highlights from the beginning of the school year, things that I have seen in the classrooms and throughout the building.

The first few weeks of school have been a time of growth and connection for both our teachers and our students. A strong social emotional learning environment's foundation is rooted in the relationships being cultivated in every classroom. Our educators are working to establish a welcoming and nurturing environment where students feel seen, heard, and valued. We believe that strong teacher-student relationships are at the heart of a successful education.

In addition to teacher-student connections, teachers are actively building a sense of community within each classroom and across our school as a whole. I have seen our teachers encourage students to collaborate, share, and support one another, creating an atmosphere where everyone feels like they belong. A great example of this was our first School Meeting last Wednesday where all students and staff came together, led by fifth grade hosts, to review some of our safety procedures, hear reminders on composting, learn more about our new teachers, and sing songs together.

Back to School Night Back to School Night

I'm looking forward to welcoming families for Back To School Night on Thursday September 21st from 6:00-8:00pm. As a reminder, this is an adults only event and the agenda for the evening is below.

6:00-6:15 - Welcome and visit with one another and learn more about our community

organizations.

6:15-6:45 - Grades K, 1, and 2 present (Grades 3, 4, and 5 visit specialists)

6:55-7:20 - All School Presentation in the Cafeteria

7:30-8:00 - Grades 3, 4, and 5 present (Grades K, 1, and 2 visit specialists)

8:00 - End of event

Arrival & Dismissal Arrival & Dismissal

Thank you all for your help with ensuring a safe and efficient arrival and dismissal this year. I would like to share some reminders to parents and guardians for the drop-off and pick-up procedures.
  • The car line is a LIVE line meaning that cars are not allowed to park and adults are NOT to get out of their car.
  • If you need to help your child in or out, please wait in line until you reach the front of the Yellow Section where you can load/unload your child.
  • Please keep your name sign in your dashboard until your student arrives, this helps our staff know which car belongs to each student.
  • Students need to enter & exit on the passenger side of the vehicles directly from the curb.
  • Do not pass cars unless directed by a staff member.
  • Cars that arrive at the line after 7:55 am should park and walk their child in the main doors as the school day starts at 7:55 am.

Nurse Update Nurse Update

Welcome Back to School!

I love seeing all the students learning, playing, and consequently spreading germs together (which is normal). Please help our community stay healthy by keeping sick kids at home.

  • Fevers, vomiting, and diarrhea require students to stay home until fever/vomiting/diarrhea free for 24 hours without using medication.

  • For strep and conjunctivitis, students must be on antibiotics for at least 24 hours before returning.

  • COVID is around. We are following the same DESE Guidelines as last year, which had 5 day isolation for positive cases.

    • With COVID-like mild symptoms, students can stay in school as long as a COVID antigen test was done and is negative.

    • Notify Nurse Jackman if your child has tested positive for COVID.

Contact Nurse Jackman if you have any questions. Corinne_Jackman@sudbury.k12.ma.us

Food Pantry Food Pantry

The Sudbury Community Food Pantry was started in March of 1990. It is presently staffed by a group of about 100 dedicated volunteers, and assists approximately 60 to 80 families each week. Currently, Ascension Parish (formerly Our Lady of Fatima) provides the space needed to shelve and distribute food to our clients. The food pantry provides hundreds of families meals each month from all over Middlesex County.

One Friday a month, all of the Sudbury K-8 schools, conduct a food drive. A list comes out each month of the most needed items and is sent out via email at each school. However, all non-perishable items are accepted, even if they are not on the list. At the elementary schools we promote the food drive days by having a theme at each school. Some themes are: Pajama day, Creative hat and hair day, backwards day etc.

Our first Food Pantry & Spirit Day will be Friday September 29th and the theme is Creative Hair/Hat Day!

You can use the link below to sign-up to volunteer to help with our Food Pantry Collection.
