Week at a Glance
October 19-23
Catholic Education Week
As we enter Catholic Education Week in Alberta, we celebrate the powerful gift of publicly funded Catholic education and the opportunities it provides to nurture our students' minds, hearts, and spirits.
This year, we look to St. Pier Giorgio Frassati, whose joyful faith and compassionate service remind us that we live the Gospel through our everyday actions and relationships. His example invites us to draw closer to Christ by caring for others, particularly those most in need.
Within our school community, faith permeates every aspect of learning—from the lessons we teach and the prayers we share to the ways we extend kindness, offer forgiveness, and recognize each person's God-given dignity.
Catholic Education Week is an opportunity to give thanks for this gift and celebrate the partnership of families, staff, parishes, and students in helping our children grow in faith, discover their purpose, and share Christ’s love with the world.

Messages for Students
If you need to pass along a message to your child, please call the school office at 403-347-7830 before 3:00pm. The office becomes particularly busy after this time, making it difficult to deliver messages before the dismissal bell at 3:17pm
Student safety is our priority. Calling before 3:00pm helps us ensure your child receives your message in time. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Birthday Parties
We wanted to bring forward a few trends we've noticed regarding birthday parties happening at our school during lunchtime. Our students only have 30 minutes for eating, with adult supervision, and these parties often take longer than that. Consequently, students aren't getting their time outside to play and teachers are not getting their lunch break.
We are seeing an increase in the extravagance of these birthday lunches - sometimes including a full meal (pizza, burgers, chicken nuggets, etc.), drinks (juice/pop), cake or cupcakes and then a treat bag. These 'birthday parties' are becoming increasingly difficult to manage due to the setup, food serving, and cleanup required afterward. We also have many food allergies or sensitivities to consider among our students, which results in some students being left out of these lunch-time parties. These birthday lunches are also often filled with sugary treats, making it difficult to regulate our students in the afternoon.
Moving forward, if you would like to celebrate your child's birthday at school, please communicate directly with their teacher and send one small treat in for your child's class. If you need to drop the treat off we kindly ask that you leave it at the office and we will ensure that it gets to your child's classroom.

Dress up for Fall
As the fall weather gets colder, please remember to send your children to school dressed for the weather! 🍂 Mornings can be chilly, especially during morning recess, so warm jackets, hats, and gloves are a good idea. Let’s make sure everyone stays warm and comfortable while enjoying time outside!

Halloween Costume
We’ll be celebrating Halloween at school on October 30! Students are welcome to wear a costume, but please remember that costumes must be school-appropriate, comfortable, and safe. Masks may be worn during the Halloween parade and for pictures only. Please note that the school is not responsible for providing or replacing batteries needed for costumes. Inflatable costumes can also make it difficult for students to sit comfortably and participate in classroom activities, so please keep this in mind when choosing a costume. No realistic weapons or costumes that interfere with learning, movement, or visibility. Let’s have a fun and safe Halloween celebration together!
Update Forms - Power School
Student Update Forms were sent to families earlier this month through PowerSchool. Please log in to PowerSchool → School Engage to review and submit the form. Families should also check School Fees and Forms to complete any applicable In-Town Transportation/Walking Forms. Middle School families should also complete the Athletics Forms, including the Parent/Guardian Acknowledgement of Athletic Eligibility Form for female students ages 12 and older. The deadline was September 30. WE'RE STILL MISSING 150 FORMS! If you need assistance please email Mme Bouchard (brigitte.bouchard@rdcrs.ca) with your child's full name.

Lost and Found: Is Your Stuff on Vacation?
Our Lost and Found is getting crowded and some items have been living here a little too long! From jackets to water bottles, we have quite the collection of lonely belongings waiting to go home. Families, please encourage your child to check the Lost and Found and reunite with any missing treasures before they become permanent residents at ECJL!

Community Donation Request: Mini Marché Option Program!
Dear School Families,
This term, our middle school students are excited to launch a brand-new option class called Mini Marché! In this hands-on course, students will learn fiber arts (crochet, knotting) and natural cosmetic formulation while building real-world business skills and practicing oral French. Products created in class will be sold at upcoming school events, with net proceeds donated to local Red Deer charities chosen by our students.
To help stretch our budget and promote sustainability, we are seeking donations of gently used or surplus craft supplies. If you have any of the following items cluttering your craft space, we would gratefully accept them at the front office:
Yarn: Any skeins or partial skeins of worsted weight yarn (cotton or acrylic).
Embroidery Floss: Any colors/skeins for friendship bracelets.
Glass Jars: Clean, small mason jars or baby food jars (with lids) for candles.
Fabric Scraps: Clean cotton fabric remnants or clean thrifted cotton shirts/sheets for sewing upcycled accessories.
Crochet Hooks or Knitting Needles: Any size rubber or metal hooks you no longer use.
Nous vous remercions chaleureusement pour votre générosité et votre soutien de nos jeunes entrepreneurs !
Thank you for your generosity and support of our young French Immersion artisans!
