👑A November Rally: Celebrating Our Successes!👑

November Newsletter: Gratitude and Growth – Shrek Style💚🧅

Dear Welty Family,

Hear ye, hear ye, brave teachers and families of our swamp!

As we stomp into November, I want to take a massive, ogre-sized moment to express my deepest gratitude and pride.

I am incredibly proud of the hard work and accomplishments from the first semester. Every teacher, family member, and student contributed to a truly fantastic start, and we are certainly making great strides in Doing our Best to be the Best!

Gratitude and Growth

From the bright smiles of our little learners to the loyal support of our families and community, there’s more to appreciate than layers on an onion.🧅

Thank you for your commitment to our school.

This month, our students will be tackling some important benchmarks. Let’s cheer them on to show their true ogre strength! Remember, every bit of effort makes a difference in their learning journey.✨💪

Together, let’s keep our swamp (uh, school) a place where everyone feels welcome, safe, and ready to grow.

Wishing you a November full of gratitude, laughter, and maybe a little bit of swampy fun.

Mrs. Silva,

🌟 Growing in Our Layers – Supporting Social & Emotional Health (Shrek Style!) 🌟 Growing in Our Layers – Supporting Social & Emotional Health (Shrek Style!)

This month, we’re taking inspiration from Shrek and friends to help our students grow in their social and emotional health. Just like in the movies, life’s lessons can be messy, funny, and full of heart! Here are some fun ways to help your child build confidence, empathy, and resilience—ogre style! 🏰✨

1. Friendship and Relationships 👬🐴

Shrek and Donkey didn’t exactly start off as best pals—there was a lot of noise, eye rolling, and “Get outta my swamp!” moments. But over time, they learned that true friendship means listening, forgiving, and supporting one another.

💡 At home: Encourage your child to welcome new friends while still valuing old ones. Talk about how friendships can change and grow—just like onions (they have layers!).

2. Jealousy and Insecurity 😤💚

Even ogres feel jealous sometimes! Shrek thought Fiona might like Prince Charming more, but he learned that being himself was what truly mattered.

💡 At home: If your child feels left out or jealous, remind them it’s okay to feel that way—but those feelings don’t define who they are. Talk about what makes them special and valued.

3. Identity and Self-Acceptance 🧅✨

Shrek once believed being an ogre was a bad thing—but he learned to love himself for who he is.

💡 At home: Talk about your child’s strengths and unique traits. Remind them that being themselves is their superpower—warts, quirks, and all!

4. Fear of Change and Resilience 🌪️🦋

Shrek’s world changed fast—from living alone in a swamp to being a dad and a hero. Change can be scary, but it also brings growth and joy.

💡 At home: Discuss changes happening in your child’s life (a new class, friend, or routine). Help them see that change can lead to new adventures.

5. Collaboration and Problem-Solving 🧙‍♀️🤝

Whether rescuing Fiona or facing Farquaad, Shrek and his friends succeed because they work together!

💡 At home: Encourage teamwork with family chores or games. Celebrate when your child listens to others’ ideas and helps find solutions.

6. Empathy and Compassion 💕🐉

From Donkey comforting Dragon to Shrek understanding Fiona’s feelings, the movies remind us how powerful kindness can be.

💡 At home: Ask your child how they think others might feel in different situations. Encourage small acts of kindness each day.

💬 A Swampy Challenge for Families

Have a Shrek Family Movie Night! 🍿
After the movie, ask:

  • What feelings did the characters experience?

  • How did they solve their problems?

  • What can we learn from them about friendship and courage?

Remember:

Even ogres grow, and so do our kids—one layer at a time. Thank you for helping us create a caring, supportive “swamp” where every child feels loved and valued.

🏰 Why Coming to School Every Day Matters – Shrek Style! 💚🧅

  • ✅ Builds Strong Learning Habits – Like Shrek’s Daily Routine in the Swamp!

Coming to school every day helps kids build good habits—responsibility, consistency, and focus. Shrek didn’t become a hero overnight… it took practice (and maybe a few mud baths).

📖 Supports Academic Success – Layer by Layer

Every day in class adds a new layer of learning—just like an onion! When students are here, they keep up with lessons and feel confident about what they’re learning.

⏳ Prevents Falling Behind – Don’t Get Lost in the Swamp!

Each lesson connects to the one before. Missing school is like wandering off into the swamp—you might lose your way! Staying present helps kids stay on track and ready for what’s next.

🤝 Encourages Social Growth – Because Even Ogres Need Friends

Shrek learned that life’s better with friends (and a talkative Donkey). When kids attend school regularly, they build friendships, learn teamwork, and discover how to work with others.

🌟 Strengthens Confidence – “Better Out There Than in Here!”

Being part of the class every day helps students feel included and proud of what they can do. Confidence grows when they know they belong—just like Shrek did when he realized he was more than just an ogre.

🚀 Sets the Foundation for the Future – Happily Ever After Starts Now!

Good attendance now builds strong habits that lead to success in middle school, high school, and beyond. It’s the path to their own fairy-tale ending—no magic wand required!

So remember: Every day counts, even in the swamp! 🌿
Let’s help our students show up, stay engaged, and grow into their best selves—one muddy step at a time.
