Conferences & Progress Reports An update on our revised elementary K-5 reporting system

Dear Families,

We’re writing to share changes that we made to the K-5 Progress Reporting System. These changes were made in response to the surveys filled out last June by families and teachers.

The goal of our ACSD K-5 reporting system is to:

  • Provide opportunities for families to connect and collaborate with teachers about how your child is doing.

  • Create a record of student progress towards grade level standards for families, teachers, and schools.

Please read about the changes below. We will be sending out another survey in June 2024 to hear your thoughts about your experience this year so that we can continue to improve this process for families.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact Tracey Harrington at tharrington@acsdvt.org or (802) 458-2191.

Connection & Collaboration at Conferences Connection & Collaboration at Conferences

Teachers will now meet with parents/guardians for parent-teacher conferences THREE times this year (instead of two). These conferences will be 20 minutes long, in person or virtual/by phone. They will focus on your student’s learning and progress. Conference windows will be offered in:

  • October - November
  • January - February
  • March - April

Student Progress Reports Student Progress Reports

Progress Reports will be revised to include more detailed descriptors about each discipline/subject. Students will receive progress indicators on a 5 point scale for each area. In addition to the progress indicators, teachers will write one comment that addresses the student’s developing Approaches To Learning skills (ATLs).

Progress Reports will be sent home in January and June.

Grade Level Standards Documents Grade Level Standards Documents

Parents/Guardians will be given At A Glance documents in January 2024 specifying the end-of-year grade level learning expectations (standards) in each discipline.

Teachers and Parents/Guardians will have a conversation about student progress towards these standards during the parent-teacher conferences.
