Week 30 Newsletter

Hello Dragons,

With only 8 weeks of school left, things are going to start moving much quicker for our staff and students. There are many things that go into the excitement and anticipation for the end of the school year, state testing, Senior activities, Spring Sports, school projects, and the excitement that comes with the end of the school. April and May are certainly the busiest time of year for all of our students.

Of course, the warm weather is also something that we all look forward to. With that in mind, the LOHS Admin team would like to remind our families of our dress code policy. Below you will find excerpts about student dress that appear in the student handbook. For the entire text of the dress code, please refer to pages 61-62 of the student handbook.

  1. NO EYE COVERINGS: i.e. sunglasses may not be worn indoors during the school day.

  2. LANGUAGE AND IMAGES: Inappropriate language, signs, symbols, or images worn on clothing shall be prohibited. Please see student handbook for full description

  3. CLOTHING FIT AND COVERAGE: Attire must be worn in such a manner that is appropriate. A student's chest and buttocks must be covered.

  4. SHOES: must be worn at all times.

Over the next few weeks, we are asking for your help and support as we take a common sense approach to the dress code.

Thank you for your help in this matter, and we hope you and your students have a great end to the school year.

Thank you,

LOHS Admin Team

Class of 2024 M-Step Schedule

The Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress, or M-STEP, is a 21st Century computer-based assessment designed to gauge how well students are mastering state standards. These standards, developed for educators by educators, broadly outline what students should know and be able to do in order to be prepared to enter the workplace, career education training, and college. M-STEP results, when combined with classroom work, report cards, local district assessments, and other tools offer a comprehensive view of student progress and achievement.

Your 11th-grade student will be taking the M-STEP within the next three weeks during 1st and 2nd hour. The Date and Room where your child(ren) will be tested are listed in the graphic below. Your child also received a Microsoft Teams Message indicating their date of testing and location. You must bring your school-issued device to your testing location. This test takes approximately 2 hours but is untimed and student-paced.

School Dismissal Manager

We have started utilizing School Dismissal Manager (SDM), a program for parents to communicate early student departures. LOHS successfully used the SDM program last year. It is accessible on either computer or smartphone, allowing parents the opportunity to officially submit an early dismissal request without calling the school.

On approximately September 22, you should have received a communication from School Dismissal Manager with additional details. Parents are encouraged to check their designated email accounts. Also, be advised the message might be redirected to your “junk” folders. The welcome email from SDM provides all relevant information necessary to activate and begin using your account.
