The LMS Express March 21 2026

Hello all,

Last week, we were delighted to welcome so many of our LMS families and students in for conferences. The discussions that take place on these busy days serve to strengthen the connection between our school and our families, and we value the time we're able to spend together. Our students work so hard and grow in different ways each day, and it's a pleasure to step back for a moment and recognize them, their work, and what we can do to work together to help support them.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Be Well,

Tom

March is Music in Our Schools Month! March is Music in Our Schools Month!

March is Music in Our Schools Month! Mrs. Garnham and Mr. Terry are extremely excited to be sharing several music events with everybody all throughout March!

For more than 40 years, March has been designated by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) as Music In Our Schools Month® (MIOSM®). The positive impact of music education on students' lives lasts a lifetime. Therefore, ensuring equitable access to music education for the youngest members of our society—students—is paramount.

Every day, in classrooms and rehearsal rooms across our school district, music educators dedicate themselves to reaching all students with life-changing musical experiences. Parents, administrators, and the wider community often only see the wonderful results of music performances; however, we miss the months of practice and rehearsals, and more importantly, the learning process that takes place to make it all happen.

We encourage members in our community to acknowledge and celebrate music education as an essential part of every student’s educational journey. (NAfME)

You can check out all of the amazing concerts on these days below:

  1. Wednesday, March 25th, Jazz Band Performance on the State House Steps, 8:30 AM, Concord, NH.

  2. Saturday, March 28th, Elementary Honors Band, 5:00 PM, Weare, NH.

Special Guest

Harmony Markey, assistant professor of music education from Plymouth State University came to visit the choirs as part of Music In Our Schools Month, and gave the students a lot of positive feedback and praise! They were excited to learn more from her about choral music, and work on specific things in our music! Thank you to all students and Harmony!

Debate Team Debate Team

Should the U.S. federal government ban corporations from buying single-family residences? That was the debate topic that the LMS Debate Team debated over four rounds this past Saturday at Portsmouth High School. As always, sides are determined by coin flip, and students must be prepared to debate either for the resolution or against it.

LMS brought two teams to this tournament: Grace Mlodzik & Charlotte Roy, and Rose Gibbs & Evie Duchaine. Natalie Rhoads, without a partner for this tournament, attended as an observer and supporter. Our middle schoolers handled themselves very well, going up against high school competitors from several other schools, including Portsmouth High School and nearby Oyster River High School, and even getting some wins.

Our squad will now start preparing for next month's tournament, where the topic will be "Resolved: The United States should eliminate the President’s authority to deploy military forces abroad without Congressional approval." The upcoming April tournament will likely be our final tournament of the season.

LMS Art Merch and Yearbook Design Studio Update LMS Art Merch and Yearbook Design Studio Update

LMS Art Merch Store

Students built our online LMS Art Merch store by creating original artwork and thoughtfully applying their designs to real products. From concept to final mockup, students are learning how artists and designers turn ideas into items people can actually use and enjoy.

This project gives students the opportunity to see their artwork move beyond the classroom and into the hands of classmates, families, friends, and our wider community. It is authentic design work with a real audience, and students are taking pride in seeing their creativity come to life in tangible ways.

Keep an eye out as more student designed products continue to be added.

LMS Job Shadow Day LMS Job Shadow Day

User uploaded image

Upper Valley Business Alliance in partnership with Lebanon Middle School UVBA & Lebanon Middle School are partnering to bring back Job Shadow Day!

It may seem like an early start, but exposing 8th Graders to the variety of job opportunities the Upper Valley has to offer can influence what extracurriculars they consider as they enter high school. It also allows us to showcase the Upper Valley as a place people can have a successful career, as opposed to feeling the need to leave the region to pursue higher education and a viable career path.

What else do I need to know?

  • Job Shadow Day is held on: April 29, 2026 8am – 1pm
  • Transportation for students is provided to and from your office or facility.
  • A chaperone will accompany each group of students. • Let us know if you plan to provide lunch or not – this is optional
  • You can host as many or as few students as you feel comfortable with.

Some suggestions you might consider:

  • Take them on a tour of your office/workshop/facility
  • Rotate through different departments
  • Allow them to shadow someone
  • Offer an activity they can try to get their hands on something practical related to your business

Sample descriptions from past placements

The Montessori Discovery School serves children ages 3 through kindergarten. You will spend the day observing and assisting teachers in the classrooms, the lunchroom and on the playground. Multiple students will be shadowing at this location and may be split up to work one on one with teachers in different classrooms. Dress for the weather – you will work with youth outside during recess.

Northern Stage changes lives, one story at a time. Learn about the skills and tasks needed to successfully stage productions and how a nonprofit performing arts organization operations. Students will tour facilities, play theater games, meet production and administrative staff, and learn about various aspects of creating theater in our community. Plan to bring a book or homework for downtime during arrival and pick up times.

Students will see and work in a laboratory that processes fuels and chemicals from biomass sources. Mascoma LLC may film you working alongside researchers. Required attire: students need pants and closed-toed flat shoes. Without these, they are unable to be in a lab.

Spend time learning about careers in law enforcement. Topics covered will include law package, fingerprinting, building/cruiser tour, the police officer’s uniform and more. Dress for the weather, you will spend some time outdoors.

How To Sign Up

Any type of business can participate and are encouraged to host multiple students across different sectors of their business. A parent chaperone accompanies each group and LMS is coordinating transportation to and from each site.

Camp K Leadership in Training (LIT) Program Camp K Leadership in Training (LIT) Program

The Camp K Leadership in Training (LIT) Program is a fun and hands-on opportunity for middle school students ages 12-13 (as of June 30th) who want to build leadership skills while being part of an exciting summer camp environment. LITs start with a one-week training experience where they learn teamwork, problem solving, activity leadership, and how to support campers and staff. After training, they spend at least two weeks working alongside counselors with campers, gaining real experience mentoring younger students, leading games and activities, and building confidence as leaders. The program is designed to help students grow their communication skills, responsibility, and teamwork while being part of the Camp K community.

For 2026, the LIT program is $130 for Lebanon residents and $160 for nonresidents. There is financial aid available through our Leb Rec website here, and Listen is offering summer camp financial aid as well that participants are able to apply to our camp programs.

Application information can be found here Handbook and Application
