📢 An Important Message About Online Data Confirmation
Westwood Families,
This week, teachers shared an important reminder with families who have not yet completed their Online Data Confirmation. We are still working to reach all of our families, and we need your help!
Completing Online Data Confirmation is more than just a paperwork requirement. It is an important process that:
📱 Updates your child’s emergency contact information so we can reach the right people when needed.
🏫 Helps our school accurately identify students and families who qualify for important funding and resources.
💰 Directly impacts the programs and services we are able to provide for our students.
We understand that the process can take some time and may bring up questions. Please don't give up if you are having difficulty! Families who meet eligibility requirements but do not complete the necessary information can result in Westwood losing more than $1,000 in funding per eligible student.
That loss can have a real impact on our students and the programs we are able to offer. For example, funding helps support programs such as our Bridge program, which provides valuable support for our working families.
❤️ We Are Here to Help!
If you have not completed your Online Data Confirmation, please make it a priority to do so as soon as possible.
If you are having trouble with the process, have questions, or simply aren't sure what to do next, please come to the Westwood office. We will be happy to sit with you and help you complete the process.
Your time and effort truly make a difference. Completing Online Data Confirmation helps ensure that Westwood receives the resources our students and families deserve.
Thank you for partnering with us and helping us protect the programs and opportunities that benefit our children!
To complete ODC:
- Go to the Aeries Parent & Student Portal and log in. If you do not have a log in, please follow the prompts to create an account. If you need assistance with this, please call our school's office.
- Once logged in, if you have not completed the ODC a pink banner will appear across the top of your screen prompting you to complete the process. Follow the prompts and select "Finish and Submit" to finalize the data confirmation.
If you need clarity on the above steps, or would like to see screenshots, please view this document or call our school's office.

Weekly Westwood Community Bulletin - Week of 9/14
🌟 Week 8 Family Update – Westwood Elementary 🌟
Dear Westwood Families,
Thank you to all of the families who joined us for Lunch with a Loved One this past week! 💙 It was wonderful to see so many parents, grandparents, and loved ones spending this special time with our students. Your presence means so much to our students and helps make Westwood such a strong and connected school community!
📅 A Few Important Reminders:
⏰ Wednesday, September 16 – Minimum Day
Please plan accordingly for our early dismissal.
📸 Friday, September 18 – Picture Day!
Make sure your child is ready to smile! 😊
👩🏫 Parent-Teacher Conferences Begin Tuesday, September 22
Parent-teacher conferences are one of the most important opportunities we have to partner with you about your child's education. This is a chance to celebrate your child's successes, talk about their progress, identify areas where they can grow, and make a plan together for continued success.
Your participation is vital! Our goal is for at least 90% of families to participate in conferences with their child's teacher. We know that schedules can be busy, so our teachers are offering virtual and phone conference options to make participation easier for every family. Please make every effort to connect with your child's teacher!
🍂 Fall Break & Fall Intersession
Friday, September 25 is our last day of school before Fall Break.
We are excited that Fall Intersession will be held right here at Westwood Elementary! We strongly encourage families to take advantage of this opportunity.
Intersession isn't just for students who are struggling. It is an opportunity for students to keep their learning momentum going, strengthen important skills, build confidence, and return from break ready to learn. This is especially important for students who are working to become stronger in ELA and math.
Even a short break from learning can make it harder for students to maintain the skills and routines they have worked so hard to develop. Attending intersession gives your child additional time with teachers, continued practice, and another opportunity to grow.
If your child has been working to improve their reading, writing, or math skills, we especially encourage you to enroll them. The extra time and support could make a meaningful difference in their progress this year. 📚✏️
We want every Westwood student to have every opportunity to be successful, and Fall Intersession is one of the ways we can provide that extra support.
Thank you for being an important part of the Westwood family and for partnering with us to help your child learn, grow, and thrive! ❤️
With appreciation,
Westwood Elementary

Westwood Parent and Family Engagement Policy
📣 An Important Message for Westwood Families
As a Title I school, Westwood is required to share our Parent and Family Engagement Policy with families. This policy outlines how we will work together to support student success and create meaningful opportunities for families to be involved in our school community.
📖 Please take a moment to review the policy included in this week's S'more.
Your voice and participation matter! We value your partnership and welcome your ideas about how we can continue to strengthen family engagement at Westwood.
Together, we can help every Westwood student learn, grow, and succeed! 💙
Literacy Matters at Westwood!
One of our biggest focuses this year is helping our students become strong, confident, and fluent readers.
As a staff, we have been meeting for data chats and looking closely at student achievement. Our students recently completed the STAR assessment, and one area we know we need to continue working on is reading fluency. We want our students to not only be able to read the words, but to read smoothly, confidently, and with understanding.
Families play such an important role in this! One of the best things you can do at home is simply help your child develop a love of reading.
For our students in 2nd grade and up, please encourage them to practice reading out loud at home. Reading aloud gives students the opportunity to build fluency and confidence. You can also ask your child if they are taking and passing their Accelerated Reader quizzes. We want students to be reading books that are just right for them and celebrating their progress along the way!
And we are going to have a little fun with it! 🎉
Throughout the year, we will be raffling gold coins at every grade level for students who are successfully passing their Accelerated Reader quizzes. These gold coins can be used with our Book Vending Machine to choose a book to take home and enjoy!
For our younger readers, easy readers and books they can read independently are wonderful. But please remember that reading to your child is just as important. When you read to your child, you are building excitement around books, modeling what fluent reading sounds like, introducing new vocabulary, and helping them develop a love for stories and learning.
This will be a huge focus for us this year, and I am so excited to see the growth our students will make. With our teachers, families, and students all working together, I know we can help our Dolphins become strong and confident readers!
Keep reading, Westwood! 📖💜💙
Have You Reported Your Students' Absence?
Please work with us to Board Policy states that a student is allowed 14 illness days for the school year. After this time a medical note is required or the absence is NOT excused.
Examples of unexcused absences include missing school due to:
- Going out of town or on vacation
- Attending weddings
- Oversleeping
- A parent/guardian/sibling having an appointment
- Not having a babysitter
- Attending a graduation
Guardians have 10 days to clear an absence before it is considered unexcused regardless of reason. After 10 days, the absence cannot be changed.
If a child is on an intra-district transfer from another school, regular attendance is mandatory and required to approve the intra-district agreement.
