Northern Burlington Climate Survey Northern Burlington Climate Survey

Northern Burlington Regional School District is asking all stakeholders to participate in a Climate Survey that will collect useful data to gain multiple perspectives on aspects of school climate. Collecting data is important for understanding strengths and needs of our school and how it feels to be a member of the NBC community. Your voice is important to us, and your opinions will help us to address current priorities. The survey is anonymous, and it is voluntary. The survey will be available to all stakeholders from Friday, May 23 , 2025 thru Sunday, June 8, 2025.

We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to exploring new ways to continue working together to create the most supportive and engaging environment NBC Students, Families, and Faculty.

Please use the link or the QR code below to complete the survey.

State Testing State Testing

We completed our state testing this week. With the exception of any students who need to do makeups, this is the last round of state testing for this school year.

Thank you to our students for doing their best on the assessments, as well as handling the different schedules that we followed to accommodate the testing.

Eighth Grade Class Night Eighth Grade Class Night

The Eighth Grade Class Night is scheduled for Friday, June 6 from 6pm- 8pm at the Middle School. This is a picnic event that includes food, music, and outdoor games, and dress is casual. The event is open only to Northern Burlington 8th graders. Tickets were sold the last two weeks during lunches. Tickets will not be sold at the door. We have made multiple announcements, so we are hopeful all the students who wanted to purchase a ticket did so. We look forward to a fun evening for the members of the class of 2029 who are attending.

Clinical Corner Clinical Corner

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and I came across an article about athletes and mental health that I thought would be beneficial to be aware of. While the article is titled “Student Athlete Mental Health: Tips for Parents and Coaches”, there is no doubt that teachers that work with this population should know about this too. To summarize the article, the author, Valerie Valle, Psy.D., writes that playing sports is a two-sided coin. On one side, sports can improve self-esteem, increase physical activity, and even improve sleep and dietary habits. Student athletes can be more motivated to do better academically too as they are setting goals for themselves.

However, on the flip side, there can be negative effects from sports on athletes’ mental health. Some negatives include associating winning with self-worth, having an unhealthy sense of perfectionism, experiencing stress and anxiety when they make a mistake and overall feeling overwhelmed trying to balance the demands of the sport with the rest of their lives. Depression can also develop and if you see your child/student/player losing interest in their sport along with a change in appetite or sleep they may need to be monitored. Another red flag to watch out for is burnout-going to practice without the usual enthusiasm or expressing a desire to quit can be some symptoms.

Valle reports that the best thing adults who support athletes can do is listen and acknowledge their feelings. “I’ve noticed that …” is a great place for supportive adults to start. Just a couple of the many coping skills she recommends are making time for breaks and trying to keep fun as part of the equation of sports. For the full article click here.
