Hello Trailblazers!
10.16.2026
Dear Discovery Families,
This week, Discovery School participated in a practice lockdown drill as part of our ongoing commitment to keeping students and staff safe. As part of the Grand Forks Public Schools Safety and Security Plan, all schools are required to regularly practice emergency procedures, including fire drills, lockdown drills and weather-related drills.
For all our safety drills, Discovery staff utilize an online communication platform called E3, which allows us to communicate and account for students and staff throughout the drill. Prior to this week's lockdown drill, classroom teachers took time to visit with students about our school's safety protocols, explaining what a lockdown means, what students should do and why practicing these procedures is important. Our goal is always to approach these conversations in an age-appropriate, reassuring manner so students feel prepared rather than frightened.
While we hope to never need to put these procedures into action during a real emergency, practicing them helps us be prepared to respond effectively. Keeping our Trailblazers safe is always a top priority!

Discovery Behavior Tracking
Using our new Infinite Campus system, all elementary schools will track student behaviors. Below is an explanation of how we will track minor and major behaviors and how we will have a designated teaching time each Friday to meet with student's with multiple behavior reminders.
Nut Free!
Our school is a nut-free facility to help keep all students safe. Please be sure that any snacks or lunches sent with your child do not contain nuts or nut products.
Birthday Treats Reminder
To help keep all of our students safe, our school district does not allow birthday treats or food items to be brought in due to allergies. We love celebrating students, and non-food items like trinkets, small toys, pencils, or other fun items are always welcome. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe!
Thank You for Keeping Our Students Safe! ππππ
Oops Happens!
Spills, mud, accidents, and unexpected messes happen! Please send a spare set of clothes in your childβs backpack to keep at school. A shirt, pants/shorts, underwear, and socks can make all the difference when little mishaps happen!
