National Assistant Principals Week
This past week was National Assistant Principals Week, which is designated to recognize the important role assistant principals play in supporting students, staff, and school communities.
At Burgettstown, our newest administrator is Dr. Brooke Hoffman, the Assistant Principal at the Middle/High School. Dr. Hoffman transitioned to her role as Assistant Principal in December after beginning her career as a special education teacher in the Big Beaver Falls Area School District. Her dedication, leadership, and commitment to our students and staff help create a positive and supportive learning environment each and every day.
We thank Dr. Hoffman for all that she does for our Blue Devil community and look forward to her leadership for many years to come.
Blue Devils Shine at Chartiers-Houston Invitational
The Burgettstown Track & Field teams turned in a strong performance at the Chartiers-Houston Invitational on Saturday, April 11th, with several student-athletes earning top finishes against tough competition.
Leading the way for the boys, Aidan Stratus captured 1st place in the javelin, while Max Maltony delivered an outstanding distance double, placing 2nd in both the 1600m and 3200m. The boys 4x800 relay team—Mason Steele, Trent Clem, MJ Harvey, and Max Maltony—also had a strong showing, finishing 3rd overall.
On the girls’ side, Emi Harrison placed 3rd in discus and 5th in the hurdles, while Savana Rush earned 4th in the javelin. Abi Sell added to the team’s success with a 3rd place finish in shot put.
We are proud of our Blue Devils for their hard work, determination, and continued success on the track and in the field!
Commencement at Star Lake Confirmed
Continuing the Burgettstown Commencement tradition, the management of The Pavilion at Star Lake confirmed the availability of the venue for the last day of school, Thursday, June 4th. In the coming weeks, Dr. Cooke will communicate the senior calendar of events, with important dates, times, and other all related planning information.
Exploring Science in Action at the Kamin Science Center
Our 8th grade students recently traveled to the Kamin (formerly Carnegie) Science Center for an exciting day of hands-on learning and exploration. From stepping inside a replica space station to engaging with interactive exhibits, students experienced science in a dynamic and memorable way.
Throughout the visit, students explored topics ranging from space and engineering to physics and technology, applying classroom concepts in real-world contexts. Highlights included experimenting with interactive displays, learning about life in space, and even visiting a historic submarine along the riverfront. Dr. Cooke even found the time to step out of the school for the day and explore with the students!
This field trip provided an outstanding opportunity for students to collaborate, think critically, and spark their curiosity about the world around them. It was a day filled with discovery, engagement, and experiences that will extend well beyond the classroom.
A Day of Discovery at the Children’s Museum
Our kindergarten students recently enjoyed an unforgettable field trip to the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, where learning came to life through play, creativity, and exploration. From building and designing to experimenting with hands-on activities, students were fully engaged in experiences that encouraged curiosity and problem-solving.
Throughout the day, students collaborated with classmates, explored new environments, and embraced opportunities to think creatively. Whether working together on interactive exhibits or proudly showing off their creations, their excitement and enthusiasm were evident at every turn.
This trip provided not only a fun day outside the classroom, but also meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that our students will remember long after their visit.
Burgettstown Administrators Earn Terminal Degrees
We are proud to celebrate the continued professional growth and dedication of our leadership team, as Dr. Ferencuha and Dr. Hoffman Burgettstown recently earned their terminal degrees. A terminal degree represents the highest level of education attainable in a given field—such as a Doctorate in education—and reflects a deep commitment to expertise and leadership.
This significant accomplishment highlights not only a dedication to lifelong learning, but also a strong investment in strengthening our schools and supporting student success. Please join us in congratulating them on this outstanding achievement!

Electronic Ticketing for Burgettstown Athletics!
This year, the Burgettstown Athletic Department is introducing digital ticketing for regular season football, volleyball, girls and boys basketball, and wrestling. Though all fans may still purchase a ticket "at the gate," but those who wish to avoid lines and pre-purchase an electronic ticket may do so by accessing the digital ticketing feature on the Hudl Fan page. Single game regular season tickets for both students and adults are available. Also, for those who know that will likely attend all games in a particular season, a season pass can be purchased. Please note: there is a processing fee, per ticket. This fee does not go to the school district, it is a vendor fee in support of the electronic ticketing feature. Scan the QR code or the button below to access the Hudl Fan page.

A Note about Commencement for the Class of 2026
Our school community has embraced the uniqueness of conducting commencement exercises at Star Lake for decades. The various management groups throughout the years have supported this by donating the use of the facility and we are most appreciative. While it is early in the school year, we want to make note that in order to hold graduation at Star Lake, flexibility in planning is necessary. Believe it or not, the planning for the next year begins shortly after the school year ends. We notify Star Lake management of our desired date and it is recorded as a preferred date. There are no guarantees, and in the past several years, we have not been able to finalize the date until some point in April. We know this causes a bit of anxiousness on the part of our seniors and their families, but if we want to continue this fine tradition, we must remain flexible. After last year's Commencement, we informed the management at Star Lake that our preferred date for this year's Commencement is June 5, 2026. While this is our preferred date, there is no guarantee that we will get it. As the months go by this year, the District will remain in contact with Star Lake management. When we know the confirmed date, we will communicate it to our students and families. Though graduation may be the last thing on anyone's mind this early in the school year, we wanted to communicate this information so there are no misunderstandings.
IT IS ILLEGAL TO ENTER A SCHOOL BUS WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION
According to the Pennsylvania Crimes Code:
§ 5517. Unauthorized school bus entry. (a) Offense defined.--A person who enters a school bus without prior authorization of the driver or a school official with intent to commit a crime or disrupt or interfere with the driver or a person who enters a school bus without prior authorization of the driver or a school official who refuses to disembark after being ordered to do so by the driver commits a misdemeanor of the third degree. (b) Notice.--A school district may place a notice at the entrance of the school bus that warns against unauthorized entry.
