From the Desk of the Librarian

Happy Holidays from the library! You may have noticed that the library isn’t very library-like this year. In fact, it truly is. I’ve just been focusing on a different aspect of the library: Library Programming. This year the school library has been working hard to bring Family Nights to the Wilton community once a month as a way of encouraging community engagement and helping families bond. Since December is naturally a month of family bonding, there will not be a library sponsored Family Night this month. If you look at the school calendar, however, there will be many opportunities to get out and about as a family. I would encourage you to do so.

Another program you recently read about, both in the November newsletter and the Leader News, was the “Libraries with Heart” program. This brings the community and the library together to better help members of the Wilton community keep their health in check by monitoring their blood pressure.

As January gets closer and the new year dawns, I start to envision what that means for the future of the school library. What other new programs could be implemented? How can we connect the community to the library? How do we get students, staff, and parents more involved? Libraries are a source of information. Are there “classes” you would like to take to learn more about a certain topic? For example, if there is someone in the community who is very good at crocheting or knitting, woodworking or leather working, could I bring them in for a class one night? Looking at the Bismarck Veterans Library Programming calendar, they have a class called “Computer and Internet Basics” for adults. Is that something people around here would be interested in? Maybe have it be an open-question session for the first one and go from there. If you have ideas for programming, please let me know. I want to grow the library. To do that, I need to know your needs. The needs of the community. The needs of the patrons. If you have some ideas, please email them to me.

Library Programming is one of the fun aspects of the library. It is a way of including people of all ages, genders, and personalities. It is a way of making everyone feel welcome. That is the heart of the holiday season, too. Peace and goodwill toward “men” (mankind, humans). I wish you all a Happy Holiday, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Feliz Navidad, Happy Hanukkah and enjoy your winter break from school.

School Bus Safety

We want to remind everyone of the expectations for riding the school bus.

Safety is our top priority.
To help ensure the safety of everyone on board, please remember:

· Stay seated at all times unless you are getting on or off the bus. Sit facing forward and keep aisles clear.

· Keep hands, feet, and belongings inside your seating area and off the aisle.

· Follow the driver’s instructions immediately. Their job is to keep everyone safe.

Responsible, respectful behavior is expected.

· Use appropriate and respectful language at all times.

· Keep your voice at a level that does not distract the driver- Voice levels of 1 or 2.

· Be kind to others. No teasing, bullying, or disruptive behavior will be tolerated.

· Treat the bus and its equipment with care.

The bus driver must be able to focus on driving.
The driver's primary responsibility is the safety of every student on board. Distracting, loud, or unsafe behavior interferes with their ability to drive safely and puts others at risk.

We are asking each student to take these expectations seriously. Your cooperation ensures a safe, respectful, and positive environment for everyone for the remainder of the school year.

Thank you for your responsibility and your commitment to safety
