Superintendent's Update
August 2025 | From Superintendent Podraza
Updates for the 2025-26 School Year
Dear South Kingstown Families and Caregivers,
I hope this email finds you all enjoying the summer recess. As we prepare for an exciting new school year, I wanted to share several important updates and action items for all families.
1. NEW First Day of School Schedule
Please note our staggered start schedule for the beginning of the school year:
Monday, September 2nd: Students in Kindergarten, Grade 6, and Grade 9 ONLY
Tuesday, September 3rd: All other students (PreK, Grades 1-5, 7-8, 10-12)
This approach allows us to provide focused attention to students transitioning to new buildings and grade configurations.
2. Action Required: Update Your Skyward Information
Please log into your Skyward account as soon as possible to verify and update all family information, including:
Phone numbers and email addresses
Home address (please contact kgleason@sksd-ri.net if address needs to be changed)
Emergency contact information
Transportation needs - This is especially critical
Important Note About Transportation: If your student does NOT need bus transportation, please complete the opt-out form in Skyward. This information helps us determine proper bus routes and the number of buses needed, which represents a significant financial commitment for our district- and you as taxpayers. Your accuracy in reporting transportation needs is greatly appreciated.
3. Student Registration Updates
New Students: If you, or someone you know, have children who are not yet registered for the upcoming school year, please begin the registration process. Directions can be found on our district website at https://www.skschools.net/
Students Not Returning: If your child was enrolled with us last year but will not be returning to SKSD this school year, please contact your school's main office immediately. If you do not receive a response to your outreach, please contact the district office directly.
4. Stay Connected
Please watch for additional communications from both the district and individual schools as we approach the new school year. This will be particularly important for our high school families, as construction on the new SKHS campus will begin in August, requiring implementation of a new traffic pattern around the high school.
As we enter August and move towards the upcoming school year, I sincerely thank you for your partnership in ensuring a smooth start to the 2025-26 school year. If you have questions about any of the information above, please don't hesitate to reach out to us or your child’s school.
Looking forward to a wonderful year ahead,
Michael J. Podraza
Superintendent
