A Message from the Principal

Dear Highlander Families:

What a fantastic week to be a Highlander! We had a great awards assembly and a wonderful promotion ceremony filled with so many family and community members. We are excited to head into the last week of the school year. Please remember there is NO SCHOOL on Monday in observation of Memorial Day. Tuesday, our 8th graders will be going to Disneyland and we will hold a the Spirit Awards assembly for the 6th & 7th grade students. A special PTA meeting will be held on Wednesday via Zoom to vote on the new bylaws, please join if you are able. If you are still interested in ways to help out, please consider one of the many volunteer opportunities with PTA. Please see details in this newsletter and reach out to our PTA to get more information.

On Thursday, our Robotics Team will be hosting a Dip N Dots fundraiser. Each package of Dip N Dots will be sold for $5, this will be a cash only event. Friday, May 29th is the last day of school for students with dismissal at 12:37pm. All students must exit campus at the end of the school day, please plan accordingly.

Please stay connected to Hewes by checking our website and following us on Instagram @heweshighlanders for the latest information and news.

Highlander for a Day is a recognition program at Hewes Middle School that celebrates students for incredible moments of Winning the Day the Highlander Way. Students are recognized for working hard, including others, never giving up, controlling their responses, choosing to act above the line, and taking extreme ownership of their 20 square feet. These are the habits and mindsets that shape our Highlander culture, and we are so proud to share them with our entire school community.

As we head into summer, we want to remind you of an important mental health resource available to all students and families through our partnership with Care Solace. Care Solace is a confidential care coordination service that helps connect families with mental health providers, substance use support, and community resources matched to their needs. Their multilingual Care Companion team is available 24/7/365 to assist with finding providers, scheduling appointments, and navigating insurance options.

In addition, Care Solace has created a helpful Summer Toolkit for families that includes:

  • Tips for parents for navigating transition into summer

  • Intention-setting activities
  • Healthy habit reminders
  • Guidance for finding a therapist and accessing support resources

You can find the Summer Toolkit attached and you can access our district’s Care Solace information page here: Care Solace Resources

We encourage families to explore these resources and prioritize wellness and self-care throughout the summer months.
