What a wonderful Parent-Teacher Visitation Night at Central Middle School! We loved welcoming parents and families into our school to connect with teachers, celebrate student learning, and see all the amazing things happening in our classrooms. Families also had the opportunity to explore the Science Expo, featuring creative and exciting projects from our 6th–8th grade students. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening such a success!

A huge shout-out goes to our October students of the month. Harrison Hughes is a sixth grader who was nominated by Nurse Davis for being very polite and attentive. She also noticed that he has used the first aid skills he learned in class to help an injured classmate.

Skylar Murray is a seventh grader who was nominated by Mrs. Reynolds for always being kind and very helpful.

Our third student of the month is Lonnie Morton. He is an eighth grader nominated by Ms. A. Harvey for always smiling, being cheerful, and helping out with the morning announcements. He came up with the great idea of having announcers say their names each morning while doing the announcements.

Great job to all our Bobcats! Keep up the great work!

On Wednesday, September 16th, gifted students in grades 6–8 from Central Middle School gathered at Southside Virginia Community College in Keysville, Virginia, for an exciting day of STEM exploration and hands-on learning.

The event was presented by the Senior Humanities students of the Governor’s School of Southside Virginia, who designed and facilitated a variety of engaging activities for the visiting middle school students. Through hands-on experiences, problem-solving challenges, and STEM-focused activities, students had the opportunity to explore new ideas while working collaboratively with their peers.

The atmosphere throughout the event was filled with curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm. Students eagerly participated in the activities, challenged themselves, and enjoyed learning in an interactive environment.

It was a wonderful opportunity for our gifted students to experience STEM beyond the traditional classroom while connecting with the Senior Humanities students from the Governor’s School. Most importantly, the students had a great time learning, exploring, and making memories together!

CMS students in Mrs. Banfield's Enrichment class have been busy building real-world kitchen skills in Mrs. Banfield's Discovery class! From learning about kitchen equipment and safety to reading and converting recipes. They have worked hard to become more confident in the kitchen.

We are so proud of the progress, teamwork, and confidence our students have shown throughout these lessons. They’ve discovered that cooking is about more than just following a recipe—it’s about learning new skills, solving problems, working together, and creating something they can be proud of!

Students were able to celebrate all they learned with a tasty treat. Our students put their skills to work as they prepared Apple Nachos!

Way to go, Bobcats! Keep learning, keep creating, and keep cooking!

Mrs. Jones' 6th grade Science students used the scientific method to conduct an experiment. The experiment consisted of answering the question “which liquid (apple juice, lemon juice, or water) stops the apple from browning after being cut?” Before the experiment students were asked to research the words oxidation, chemical reaction, and enzymes. Using these vocabulary words students were able to determine what caused the apples to turn brown and which liquid worked the best.
