Dear Purple Families,

What a wonderful week of learning and creativity! Our nonfiction science books are really taking shape as learners add meaningful text features, refine their research, and explore purposeful design elements in their Keynote projects. It has been such a joy to watch their confidence grow as they begin to think like true authors and designers.

In math, we celebrated the 67th day of school with lots of joyful number sense practice and fun fraction connections and problem-solving.

In science, we’ve launched our next ADI (Argument-Driven Inquiry) to investigate the properties of light energy. Young scientists are collaborating, testing ideas, gathering evidence, and preparing to share their claims and justifications. Their curiosity and teamwork continue to shine brightly!

We also wrapped up our Global Read Aloud, Will’s Race for Home by Jewell Parker Rhodes. This beautifully written story sparked rich discussions about courage, perseverance, and the history of the Oklahoma Land Rush. Learners were deeply engaged as they connected with Will and his family’s journey, and I'm so proud of the thoughtful reflections they shared along the way.

We are so proud of the hard work and enthusiasm our Purple Fifth Graders bring each day. Thanks for sharing them with us!

Warmly,
Ms. May Voltz

So proud of our spelling bee contestants!

Vihaan, Aayan, Varun, and Akshara all did a beautiful job representing P5 with confidence and poise. A special shout-out to our very own Akshara, who won the Richard J. Lee Spelling Bee and will go on to represent us at the District Spelling Bee! We are so proud of each of these incredible learners and the hard work they put into preparing for this event. Bravo! 🎉🐝

As we head into this special week, we hope your family enjoys time to rest, reconnect, and recharge. Take this opportunity to slow down and appreciate the people who fill your life with joy. Encourage your child to give thanks to friends, family, neighbors, teachers, and anyone who makes their days brighter. And just as importantly, challenge them to think about how they can bring joy to others through kindness, gratitude, and generosity.

Thanksgiving break is also a wonderful chance to enjoy a good book together. Curl up with your current read, visit a local library, or share a family favorite. Stories spark connection, spark curiosity, and create memories.

Make time for play, too! Whether it’s a board game marathon, building something together, exploring a new park, taking a nature walk, or enjoying some fresh fall air, these moments are filled with learning and laughter.

And if you’re feeling adventurous, invite your child into the kitchen to learn how to prepare a special treat for the family. Measuring, mixing, tasting, and experimenting all build real-life skills. The results will be delicious!

Wishing all of our Purple FamiLEE a joyful, peaceful, and gratitude-filled Thanksgiving break!

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

Good attendance is crucial for your child's academic success! When they attend school regularly, they thrive academically and develop positive daily routines for learning. Here are some tips to keep your child healthy and happy in the classroom:

🥦 Ensure your child eats a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains for essential nutrients.

🏃‍♂️ Encourage physical activity they enjoy, like walks or bike rides, to stay active and focused.

😴 Make sure your child gets enough quality sleep for concentration and mood stability.

🧼 Teach proper hygiene, including frequent handwashing with soap and water.

💧 Encourage hydration with plenty of water and regular restroom breaks.

💉 Keep vaccinations and medical checkups up to date for overall health.

Lead by example with healthy habits yourself to inspire your child's well-being!
