Quick Highlights
Out of district transfers are still open @ Warren Elem
At the Scappoose Board of Education monthly meeting on Monday 9/14, the board made a motion to open up out of district transfers. It was recommended by our Superintendent to cap the transfers at 10 student spots at Warren. So - we are still accepting out of district transfers, and late registrations, for Kindergarten students who live in the Scappoose School District boundaries. Call and reach out to our Warren office secretary, Erin Bird, to ensure registration documentation is submitted and complete.
π» BOO! It scares the staff when children have Halloween candy in their lunches!
Warren Eagle staff SUPER appreciate when candy is not put into home lunches, brought to school after Halloween. It is too difficult to manage students' eating healthy food before candy in the cafeteria with all of the children present. Thank-you for your understanding in advance. π
P.s. look for the flyer from Healthy Smiles on the directions for how to give Halloween candy to donate for military services abroad.

Eagles Visit the Library
Please help your students to practice being accountable with their library books by returning them to school on Mondays. That way, they are ready to get something new to read in the library each week. Reminder notes will be sent via email today to families who have overdue books (they have been checked out for more than 2 weeks). Please make it a part of your familyβs routine to put library books in backpacks at the end of the weekend!
PE Corner: Fall Action, Jog-A-Thon Success & Gym Highlights!
βIt has been an action-packed stretch in the gym at Warren Elementary! Between preparing for and celebrating our big fundraiser, exploring exciting equipment, and tracking our fitness growth, our kindergarteners have been moving, learning, and having a blast.
β
Jog-A-Thon Celebrations & Gratitude
βA huge CONGRATULATIONS to all of our amazing kindergarten runners! Every single class gave their best effort during our annual Jog-A-Thon. Leading up to the big day, students practiced essential jogging cuesβpacing themselves, pumping their arms in a capital "L," landing softly on their "ninja feet," and taking deep breaths ("smell the flowers, blow out the candle"). That practice paid off with incredible endurance, huge smiles, and wonderful sportsmanship all around.
βA sincere thank you to our parents, families, and SEPO volunteers who cheered on our runners, helped count laps, and supported the fundraiser. All funds raised directly support our students by funding:
- βMemorable school-wide experiences and presentations
- βUpcoming student field trips
- βBrand-new, exciting PE equipment for our gym!
β
Fitness Growth & The PACER Test
βOur kindergarteners recently completed their first of three PACER tests for the school year! We are so proud of the focus, stamina, and heart every student demonstrated. A special shout-out to our top performance of the round: an incredible 155 laps!
βAlongside our running, students have been working hard on body control, core strength, and balance through fun fitness challenges like jumping jacks, "rocket blast-offs," planks, and our single-leg flamingo balance challenge.
β
Skills, Games & Equipment Exploration
βOver the past several weeks, gym classes have been filled with high-energy activities designed to build motor skills, teamwork, and coordination:
- βLocomotor Movement & Agility: Students focused on rhythm and balance while adding skipping and galloping to their movement toolkit, navigating space with partners in our "Far & Away" activity.
- βScooter Boards & Hoppers: Students explored balance, steering, and lower-body strength using scooter boards, animal hoppers, and bungee jumpers.
- βGym Favorites:
- βGiant Parachute & Obstacle Course: Practicing cooperative teamwork, spatial awareness, and full-body agility.
- βTag & Team Games: Developing communication and quick decision-making through high-energy games like Dog Pound, Clean Up Your Room, and Fire & Ice Tag.
- βBrain Breaks: Burning off extra energy and grooving to interactive movement dances with favorites like Laurie Berkner and Danny Go!
β
Halloween Mission: Saving the World's Candy Supply!
β
To wrap up the week right before Halloween, our gym transformed into a high-stakes rescue mission! The evil Oogie Boogie appeared in the gym with a dastardly scheme: he set up a battery of rockets armed with candy worm eggs (colored gym cones topped with giant cotton balls). His villainous plan was to launch them high into the atmosphere, where they would hatch, rain down across the globe, and decimate the entire world's candy supply just in time for Halloween.
βFortunately, the heroic kindergarteners of Warren Elementary were on duty. Led by Coach Q, our students launched a rapid-fire offensive assault! Arming themselves with "giant gumballs" (colored dodgeballs), students showed off incredible throwing accuracy and teamwork, knocking the worm eggs straight off the launchpads and stopping the countdown. Thanks to their bravery and great aim, Oogie Boogieβs plot was foiled, and Halloween was officially saved!
βThank you for continuing to support active, healthy habits at home!

π Principal's Corner
A word from Principal Megan ~
π Here are some important things we are learning in Kindergarten next week:
Identify and produce the sounds of letters /o/ /f/ /th/ / wh/
With prompting and support, retell familiar stories, including key details.
Counting words within sentences.
How to read my yellow heart words - click here to see a copy of the Kinder heart words!
In Science, we are exploring bees, honey, hives. How do some animals make things that they need? Talk with your child about how honey comes from bees! And, they survive on the nectar which they get from flowers.
We are learning how to show respect around the school and in our classrooms.
With Gratitude,
Principal Megan Shea

π Tips for at Home!
π If you read with/to your child 20 mins daily, you're exposing them to about 1.8 million words a year- every minute helps!
πRhyming Wonder-
Practice consonant-vowel-consonant words (CVC) by rhyming in the car! You can start by saying find a word that sounds the same - /bat/ /mat/ /rat/ & /man/ /ran/ /tan/ - make it fun and silly!π’Counting Collections-
Students love to count little objects like small erasers, scrabble tiles, fuzzy pom-poms, etc.! Put the items in a little bag and practice one to one correspondence (touching each object with the correct numeral said out loud) and explore math number sense at home. Can you sort and count the objects by 2s? 3s? 5s??!! We'll be practicing this in our classrooms very soon!
π Responsibility Chart-
Parents, your students are ready to take on some responsibility at home. Discuss with your child what types of responsibilities they could take on, agree to one new one, and then track their progress daily!Attendance: 90.11% of students were at school and on time on Thursday, Oct. 29!
Build the Habit of Good Attendance Early ~ Help your child succeed early in school!
Regular and on-time attendance is important to your childβs success at
school, starting in pre-K and kindergarten. Research strongly supports the
connection between your child's sense of belonging, academic
achievement and attendance.
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and
themselves.
Students need time to build relationships with their teachers and fellow
students.
Missing 10%, or about two days each month over the course of a school
year, can make it harder to learn to read.
Students can still fall behind if they miss just one or two days every few
weeks.
Students develop the habits of good attendance and punctuality for high
school and beyond.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?
In elementary school, parents/guardians are key players in reinforcing habits of good attendance and punctuality.
Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before school.
Develop contingency plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, neighbor or another parent.
Schedule medical appointments and extended trips when school isn't in session.
If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to their teacher, counselor or principal about how to make them feel more comfortable and excited about learning.
If your child must stay home due to illness, ask the teacher for ideas and resources for continued learning at home.
Music Notes
π΅ Have you wondered what your student is learning in Kindergarten Music Class? π΅
1) Working on keeping a steady beat.
2) Singing new songs like: The Welcome to Music song, The Good Behavior Pledge and Way Up High in the Apple Tree.
3) Playing some new instruments like the rhythm sticks and shaker eggs.
4) Playing music games like Bee Bee Bumble Bee
Here's what the things mentioned above help your student with:
1) Brain growth- Music is the only activity humans do that activates all areas of the brain at one time. And every time your student learns a new song, new areas of their brain light up that have never been lit up before. That's cool!
2) Cooperation: When we sing songs and move together, we are all doing it at the same time creating a sense of unity between us.
3) Coordination: When students sing and keep a beat with a rhythm instrument at the same time, they are learning to coordinate multiple areas of their body and teaching them to work together.
4) Taking Turns: When we play music games, students are learning all of the above, plus they are also learning to take turns and that it's okay if their friend gets a turn and they do not that class.
