Attendace Reminder
Dear Families,
We are sharing a reminder that per our new attendance policy, any medical absences over 10 cumulative days require a school conference with our administration and nursing staff for any medical notes over 10 to be considered excused. At that meeting a determination will be made if a release is needed to consult with a treating medical professional, if the student requires a temporary medical excusal from school, if the student needs homebound instruction, or if the student has an ongoing medical need that requires school based accommodations.
Until that meeting occurs and necessary plans are put into place to support students' attendance and education, the days would be considered unexcused. As a reminder, as explained in our handbooks, medical notes need to explicitly state the days students are absent from school and that they are medically unable to attend school on those days otherwise they will be considered unexcused.
We remind you that at this time that missing school for more than 2 days a month greatly impacts students' learning resulting in an 80% chance of reading below grade level for our younger kids and is a better predictor of school dropout than test scores for our older kids. See the attached for more info on attendance.

Nursing News
Please keep in mind our school health policy:
Students must be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicine before returning to school.
If your child has vomiting or diarrhea, they should be episode-free and able to eat and drink before coming back.
If your child gets sick during the school day, please make sure there’s a plan in place for pickup within an hour.
Have your kids outgrown their clothing recently? The Nurse’s Office is seeking donations of gently used shorts, leggings and sweatpants that are school appropriate. Thank you!
Lastly, please complete your child’s medication permission form in PowerSchool (under 26/27 Back to School icon) if you haven’t already. Further support can be found in this document. If there are any updates to your child’s health history, please let us know. We’re here to support your child’s well-being and are looking forward to a great year ahead!
October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Awareness month. Cardiac arrest is different from a heart attack, and occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating. SCA can happen to anyone-all ages-and prompt recognition and intervention is key! (https://stopcardiacarrest.org/)
