BHS Unified Spiritwear Store - Open Through November 16th

Shop the new Brighton Unified online spiritwear store! 15% of the proceeds go back to our BHS Unified program. The store closes at 11:59 pm on Sunday, 11/16! Orders will be ready for pickup the week of 12/8.

For more information on Unified Sports through Special Olympics Michigan and how it can impact students, click here.

Monday Construction - Commute May Be Impacted

The City of Brighton’s water division will be making a repair to the system on Hyne Street in downtown Brighton on Monday, November 17th. This work will require Hyne Street to be closed between North and Main Streets from 7 am to approximately 4 pm.

See the attached map to see the closure area.

Wednesday's Advisory Period

This information has been shared previously, but this week's Advisory will look a little different for students. Our Seniors will be attending a grade-level assembly entitled Fentanyl Fathers in the BCPA during their Advisory period this week. This is an impactful assembly that shares an important message with our students as this group works to raise awareness and decrease the frequency in which our young people are being exposed to fentanyl. For more information on this organization that will be speaking with students, you can access their website here.

One additional difference this week is that there will be no make up testing or traveling during Advisory for our 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students. 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will be attending their regularly scheduled Advisory periods. This was shared with our students and staff last week so that everyone could plan accordingly.

No Credit on Report Card Due to Attendance

As has been shared previously students are allowed 9 absences in each class for the semester. Documented absences, such as absences for school business, field trips, athletics, or medical/dental appointments do not count toward this total. If you are reviewing your student's report card and they receive an "NC" in any class, it stands for "No Credit." This means they have exceeded the allowable number of absences in that class and are required to make up time in order to have their grade reinstated. If this is the case, you and your student will be receiving additional communication on how time can be made up if you have not received it already. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

PSAT 11/NMSQT Results and Upcoming Standardized Test Prep

In case you didn't know, the PSAT 11/NMSQT results for our students from the October test are now available in their College Board accounts. Keep in mind these test results are not only a baseline for expected spring scores (all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will be taking the PSAT/SAT in April), but also unlock a number of targeted preparation options for our students. Through College Board's partnership with Khan Academy, linked PSAT results with share options for growth with our students as they look to maximize their scores this spring.

In addition to these online resources, as the year goes on, our students will exposed to addition standardized test prep in their classes. This will include increased exposure to content covered on upcoming standardized tests, the types of questions on these tests, as well as test taking strategies. This has been taking place, and will continue to take place in students' classes, including their Advisory period at various points in time up until April.

Tutoring Options at BHS

National Honor Society's After School Tutoring is underway! If your student is in need of extra help, we encourage them to reach out to the teacher first, as they will be the best resource, but have shared this option with them as well, so please feel free to do the same. NHS students will be available to tutor students in room B-1 from 2:30-3:30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Tutoring is free of charge. For more information about after school tutoring or for a list of NHS students who are willing to tutor, go to https://bit.ly/BrightonNHSTutoring Please note: our after school tutor will leave at 2:45 if no students have arrived by then.

In addition to After School Tutoring, we have another tutoring resource available for our students. Every year, the BHS Counseling Office generates a list of adult tutors that can be shared with students and families as an additional option if After School Tutoring doesn't work for them for any reason. These tutors have reached out and asked to be on our tutoring list as a resource to BHS students and families. They have self-reported their qualifications. All adults who are not BAS teachers have passed a background check. It is the responsibility of the students and families to find the best tutor for them, arrange meetings, and make payment.

The 2025-26 Tutor List can be found here.

Career Chats (Previously Lunch N Learns)

With moving Advisory out of lunches, we changed the name, but the idea for Lunch N Learns is back, just with a new name! We will be hosting Career Chats this year during Advisory and could use your help. If you, or anyone you know, may be interested in connecting our students with more information on potential career opportunities, we would love it if you could review the information below or share the following information with anyone who may be interested!

Brighton High School is looking for community partners!

We are seeking volunteer presenters to share their careers and experiences with students during our 2025-26 Career Pathways Presentations. Our "Career Chats", previously known as Lunch N Learns, are a great opportunity to inspire the next generation and help students explore future career options.

When: During Advisory on Wednesdays from 9:18-10:16 am (dates vary)
Where: Brighton High School
Who: Individuals from all career fields welcome!

If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Tanya Clark at clarkt@brightonk12.com for more details.

Together, we can help students connect their education to real-world opportunities!
