November Family Newsletter
Message From the Principal
Dear North Dorchester High School Families and Community Members,
Thank you for taking a moment to read our monthly newsletter. We’re excited to continue sharing updates about all the great things happening at NDHS. Our students continue to grow academically and demonstrate what it means to be positive, contributing members of our community.
Through our daily classroom walkthroughs, we see firsthand the dedication and effort our students are putting into their learning. They are actively engaged in group work, direct instruction, and other meaningful activities. We are encouraging students to step outside their comfort zones and participate more in academic discussions. When students take the lead in classroom learning, everyone benefits. Parents, please continue to support your child by encouraging them to be “comfortable with being uncomfortable” and to take an active role in classroom conversations.
Our teachers are working diligently each day to provide the best possible learning experiences. Engaging and intentional lesson planning is key to student success. This month, our staff participated in professional development focused on the Science of Learning, a valuable opportunity to strengthen instructional practices and enhance student outcomes.
Outside the classroom, our students have been busy creating memories and achieving great things. Homecoming was an unforgettable night of celebration and school spirit, complete with the crowning of our princes, princesses, kings, and queens—highlighting the strong bonds within our student body.
Our fall sports teams have also enjoyed an outstanding season. Congratulations to Addison Thomas, Ja’Zeon Cephas, and Coach Moxey for qualifying for states in cross country! The girls’ volleyball team had an impressive regular season and hosted the 1A East Regional Semifinals. The boys’ soccer team made history, advancing to the 1A Regional game for the first time since 2009 and winning the Region for the first time since in the 80’s, before traveling across the state for the State Quarterfinals.
Positive updates are also taking place around our building. Visitors may notice new window vinyl installations, which not only enhance the appearance of our school but also add an extra layer of security. We’re deeply grateful for the continued support from our community partners who have contributed through informational events, school visits, and generous donations.
Thank you to all our families, staff, and community members for your ongoing support and dedication to NDHS. Together, we are building a culture of pride, growth, and success.
Sincerely,
Mr. W. TJ Thompson

Standard Response Protocol
This year, DCPS has adopted the Standard Response Protocol in emergency events. On occasion, we may have to take action via the 5 different protocols: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, or Shelter. This doesn’t necessarily mean imminent danger, but may mean we need the hallways clear for safety and privacy reasons. We’ll continue to learn and practice these protocols so when emergencies occur, we know how to respond calmly and effectively.
