The Kenwood Courier
November 21, 2025
Kenwood students, Ms. Sullivan, and parent volunteer Amy Sanborn planted bulbs in the outdoor classroom gardens and have designed an experiment to determine which squirrel repellant works best! Will it be crushed red pepper, cinnamon, deeper planting, natural repellant, rocks, mesh, or coffee grounds? Stay tuned for the results this spring!
Welcome!
We’re eager to connect and partner with you the 2025-26 school year in support of your children’s academic, social, and emotional growth. You can expect to receive the Kenwood Courier every Friday.

American Indian Family Involvement Day, Nov. 17
Students were deeply engaged as author, playwright, poet and Kenwood grandmother, Marcie Rendon, shared her children's book, Stitches of Tradition, during a special celebration for American Indian Family Involvement Day this past Monday. This was a memorable literacy experience for our students and their families!
3rd Grade Community Connection
On November 19, third graders from Ms. Sue Maxa's class visited a group of knitters at The Kenwood Senior Living Complex. The knitters made a scarf for each one of Ms. Sue's students. The third graders will write thank you notes as the start of a pen pal program with the seniors.
Kenwood students have enjoyed 4,830 total minutes of learning this fall in the Outdoor Classroom, participating through both their physical education class and activities with their homeroom teachers. Way to go Kenwood Team!
Principal's Update
Dear Kenwood Families:
On Tuesday evening, about 40 parents and caregivers joined Kenwood's Site Council for a discussion that focused on the impacts of the use of technology and the challenges we are facing in the attempt to set boundaries and limits for our children. Alyssa Polack, Kenwood's Instructional Coach, and 3 Site Council parent facilitators (Corey China, Annie Meister and Alexi Tabrizi), guided the adults in 90 minutes of engaging discussion and solution sharing. They considered the differences in play we experienced as children compared to that of our own young people, the challenges we face when setting technology limits, and shared strategies we have found to be helpful in setting limits and establishing habits of being.
This was the first of three evenings that Site Council plans on hosting at Kenwood. We hope you can join us in mid-January for a screening of Screenagers, an Award-winning documentary film about youth mental health, screen time, and digital wellness.
We are excited about the possibilities of creating community solutions that will have a positive impact on all of our students! Many thanks to the Site Council for planning and facilitating the event, and to the Kenwood PTA for its financial sponsorship.
Please note that there is no school on Nov. 26, 27 and 28 for the Thanksgiving holiday. The next Kenwood Courier will be shared with you on Friday, Dec. 5.
The Kenwood staff wishes you a meaningful holiday next week. We are so grateful for this beautiful school community!
