Cooper Families,
We are excited to welcome families to Cooper tonight for our family wellness event! There will be a free soup and salad meal provided, some really neat giveaways, activities, and yoga! Hope to see you all there! While there, be sure to stop by the lost and found area as well! We have a lot of items piling up and would like them to find their owners again!

Choices and Consequences
Will children always make the choice we want them to make? No; and that’s okay! At times, we may be upset with decisions children make. As children grow older and become more independent, they will make more decisions on their own. It is natural to want to help children make good decisions. It can be hard to let them face a bad outcome and learn how their choices impact themselves and other people. Parents and caregivers help children to think through and make responsible choices. A consequence is what happens immediately after a behavior. Positive consequences show your child they have done something you like. Your child is more likely to repeat the behavior when you use positive consequences. Positive consequences include things like rewards, praise, and attention. Use positive consequences as much as possible for behaviors you would like your child to do again. Learn more about rewards, praise, and attention.
Negative consequences let your child know you do not like what they have done. Your child is less likely to repeat the behavior when you use negative consequences. Negative consequences are also called discipline. Negative consequences include things like ignoring, distraction, natural consequences, delay or loss of a privilege, and time-out. Use negative consequences for behaviors you would like your child to stop.
In science, the 4th graders are learning about the importance of freshwater and how fortunate we are to live by the biggest freshwater lake in the world. As a part of this unit, we have partnered with Megan Hogfeldt, City of Superior Water Specialist to create ice orbs. We are pledging to prevent water pollution. The ice orbs will be assembled in the shape of Lake Superior as a community art sculpture as part of the Lake Superior Ice Festival.
Also, as a part of their water unit, the 4th graders each read different portions of the book One Well by Rochelle Strauss. Then they created posters to teach others about their specific water topic. Below are pictures of the 4th graders sharing their information and then of the
winners with their posters.
