February 2-8, 2025

Good morning, Cannon families!

We have the BEST SRO! Officer Smith surprised all of our kindergarteners with K9 Thor Plushies! He is creating strong memories and relationships with ALL of our Cubs! Thank you, Officer Smith!

We’re so proud of our scholars in grades 3-5 who completed their interim assessments during the last two weeks. If your child was absent due to illness, the make-up interim window has been extended through this Friday and will be provided this week. Interim Assessments provide us with the probability for students to meet the passing standard on the spring STAAR tests in April.

Although data and individual reports are not shared with families, staff and campus leadership review the results and analyze the data for areas for growth in specific skill sets. This helps our grade level teachers plan intervention and instruction for each scholar over the next few months. This is one data point for your scholar and a snapshot of their academic achievement to date. Please understand that not all new content has been directly taught up to this point, specifically in math. You can access your scholar’s interim results on their school-issued device. Details can be located in the Edugence platform that is located in your scholar’s ClassLink account. If you have questions about how to best support your scholar at home in these specific areas, please reach out to his or her teacher.

On February 5, our 5th graders will experience GCISD Middle School Day, an engaging opportunity for students to explore the offerings and environment of their future middle schools. The event will give students a chance to experience life as a middle schooler in GCISD. Our Cubs will be bussed to Grapevine middle school to participate in a 6th grade experience, including a group introduction and rotations focused on middle school offerings such as art, band, choir, theatre, and AVID.

In addition to the daytime event, each middle school will host campus-specific sessions in the evening of February 5 for students and their parents. These sessions will focus on providing additional details about the specific middle school campus, including the electives and programs they offer. You are encouraged to attend the middle school for which you are zoned. We look forward to helping your child make a smooth transition into middle school and are excited for them to experience the variety of opportunities that await them!

Through STEM education practices, students develop key skills including: problem solving, creativity, and critical analysis. We are PROUD to honor our scholars for exhibiting STEM thinking, and we can't wait to celebrate our next group of inductees this Friday.

4th & 5th grade Valentines Dance

Hey 4th and 5th grade cub parents, the kids are begging for a dance, so we're throwing a PTA Valentine's dance on February 13th from 6:30-8:30 for a cool $20 cash. We need a ton of parent chaperones, so please fill out the form below so we can get a headcount. Mr. Balbaugh's spinning the hottest tracks, and we need your adult supervision to make this shindig happen. Mingle with other parents, bust a move, and show the kids you've still got it. Rumor has it, Dr. Garrett's a total electric slide rockstar.
