What is Title I?
Title I is the name of a program from the federal government that provides funding to school districts across our nation. The purpose of the funding is to ensure that ALL students who are struggling in reading, writing, math, science and social studies can get extra assistance at their school or in their classroom.
What Title I is NOT
Title I is NOT a special education program. It is an added service to students to ensure that they can keep up with the expectations of their grade level.
How do we receive Title I funds?
The federal government provides funds to each state. State educational agencies send funds to qualifying districts. The amount of money received is determined by the number of economically disadvantaged students attending the school.
Who receives Title I services?
Teachers and staff identify the students at their school who need the most educational assistance based on the criteria that the district has chosen. These students may qualify for additional intervention services. All students and teachers have access to instructional coaching. Students do NOT have to be from low-income families to receive Title I services.
