Dear Parents and Guardians,
What an eventful 1st few days of school! Thank you to all of our families for their patience as we had two unique dismissals to start the school year!
More importantly, it was wonderful to see our hallways filled with energy and excitement! The students have done a fantastic job learning their new routines, meeting new friends, and settling into their new environments. We will continue to reinforce these new routines next week, since we will have a few days off in between.
Thank you all again for your trust and confidence in our faculty/staff, and in our school. We look forward to a successful school year filled with collaboration and learning!
Sincerely,
Scott Lipson
Superintendent/Principal
At the July Board retreat, the Delaware Township Board of Education met with Mr. Lipson to discuss the upcoming year and identify board and district goals that will continue to move this district forward. The goals detailed below were approved at the August Board of Education Meeting.

Updates @ DTS
We are so excited to share some of the updates that have taken place at DTS over the summer! Many times, summer projects are 'behind the scenes' and you don't get to see our advancements. This year, it is very different! Thanks to the support of our BOE and DTS community, we have:
- Added sidewalks to our parking lot to create a safer arrival/dismissal
- Replaced ceilings & lighting in 8 rooms, main foyer, and main hallway
- Updated our front foyer with new tiles
- Painted our cafeteria, hallways and classrooms
- Expanded our preschool playground
- Anticipating new cafeteria tables in November
- Anticipating new benches w/ charging stations near our MS parking lot
Parent/Student Handbook
Each year, we share a parent/student handbook with families that reviews everything our district has to offer! It can be found at the bottom right of our homepage,
but for convenience, click the link below!
Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
Please click here for a memo from Mr. Lipson about our arrival/dismissal procedures.
Arrival and dismissal at DTS is a busy time of day where many students, siblings, parents and cars are moving all around our building! To ensure a smooth and safe transition, please adhere to the following:
AM
Parents can choose to use our carline drop off your child(ren), or park in our parking lot and walk the child(ren) to the front entrance.
Students who are late MUST be escorted into the building by a parent who can sign them in.
Bus Lane
Our front bus lane is for buses only. We will be closing access to the front of the building from 8:40-9:15 every day.
Carline
To ensure you are on time, we encourage families to arrive on our carline by 8:40am.
Cars are instructed to go all the way around the parking lot and stop at the starting point (see parking lot map).
We ask that students exit their cars on the passenger side and use our new sidewalks to walk to the building.
Staff members will direct the flow of traffic.
Parking Lot
Families who wish to park and escort their children may do so, but please use our sidewalks.
Parked cars will not be permitted to leave our lot until the carline is clear (approximately 8:48).
PM
Parent Pick Up
PK-4 students who are parent pick up MUST be picked up by an adult or an older sibling outside of our library at dismissal.
Gr 5-8 students may exit the building on their own.
PM Parking Lot
Families may park in our lot and walk to the front entrance at dismissal to pick up your child(ren).
Parked cars will not be permitted to leave our lot until the carline is clear (approximately 3:25pm).
PM Carline
Families may use our carline to pick their children up at dismissal. Any student in PK-4 MUST be picked up by an adult or older sibling before walking to their car.
Cars are instructed to go all the way around the parking lot and stop at the starting point (see parking lot map).
DO NOT stop at the MS entrance to pick up your child, unless instructed to do so. Please keep the flow of the carline moving.
Tardy/Absence Reporting
Please notify the school when your child is going to be absent. Report his/her absence through the Genesis Parent Portal by following the steps below. You may report an absence ahead of time for vacations, appointments, etc. If your child is going to be tardy, we ask that you still complete the process below by choosing “absent.” We will update their attendance upon arrival.
Please note that this must be submitted no later than 9:30am on the day of the student’s absence.
Log in to the Genesis Parent Portal.
Select “Student Data.”
Select “Attendance.”
Select “Notify Office.”
A "Notify Attendance Office” screen will appear (see image below). Select “Absent” from the drop down menu.
Select the date your child will be absent.
If your child will be absent more than one day, please complete the “Up through and including” date.
Select student(s) name.
Attach document if applicable.
Provide reason (please list symptoms if student is ill).
Click “Submit to Office.”
We ask that you notify the school every day your child is absent. If a child is absent and no notification has been received, you will receive an automated call at 9:30am to ensure that your child is safe.
A doctor’s note is required upon return to school after an absence of three consecutive days.
Biking to School
Students in Grades 4-8 who live within two miles of the school may be granted permission to ride their bicycles to school. The attached permission slip must be completed and electronically signed by a parent/guardian. All bicycles must be secured and parked in the bike rack by the middle school entrance. Students must walk their bike on school property. The New Jersey Bicycle Helmet Law requires that all children under the age of 17 must wear a properly fitted and fastened helmet when they ride a bicycle in New Jersey.
Roller blades and skateboards are not permitted on school property at any time, and are not to be brought into school under any circumstances.

Athletic Participation (gr 5-8)
Fall Athletes should have already submitted their physical forms to be cleared by the school Physician for participation in Fall athletics. Any physical forms submitted from this point forward may not guarantee clearance by the start of the Fall season.
To check your status, please refer to the Genesis Parent Portal under "Athletics".
Code of Conduct
Each year, we review our district code of conduct to ensure we promote achievement of high academic standards by establishing parameters for the intervention and remediation of disruptive behaviors. This Code of Conduct is included in our 25-26 Parent/Student handbook, as well as a direct link on our homepage (towards the bottom right). All families should have reviewed it with their children when completing Opening Day information, but all students will review it and sign it at the start of the school year.
Click here to view the 26-27 DTS Code of Student Conduct
Cell phone/Smart Watch Reminder
A new law was passed in NJ highlighting that excessive use of cell phone use is linked to increased levels of anxiety and depression among students and may impact their academic performance in school. For the upcoming school year, all cell phones must be turned off and stored in the student's locked locker throughout the school day. If a cell phone is used without permission, it will be confiscated and stored in the office for the remainder of the day. Repeated offenses will require a parent or guardian to pick up the phone in the office.
Students of all ages are still permitted to wear their smart watches, but they are not to be used as a communication device or gaming platform. If students are found using their smart watches to play games or communicate with others, discipline will be handled similar to using a cell phone.
Parents and guardians, we need your support in reinforcing these guidelines. Please do not text or message your child during school hours. If an emergency comes up, and you need to speak with your child, please call the school and we will pass the information along or send the student down. In addition, if your child is feeling ill, they MUST go see the school nurse. Parents and guardians should not pick up a child unless Mrs. Verma, our school nurse, confirms that this is the right course of action.
Thank you all ahead of time for your support and cooperation with this matter.
