The Sandy Run Spotlight
August 31, 2025
Welcome Back Sandy Run Cardinals,
We are just two days away from the start of the 2025–2026 school year, and the excitement is building! We know that back-to-school brings with it a mix of feelings—anticipation, nervousness, and joy—and we want to reassure you that at Sandy Run, your child will be supported every step of the way. This year, we remain grounded in our UD values: inclusivity, academic rigor, educational equity, inquisitiveness, and innovative experiences. These guideposts shape our classrooms and ensure that every student feels welcomed, challenged, and inspired.
We can’t wait to hear our hallways filled once again with the laughter and learning of our students. As you get your schoolbags packed this weekend, here are the most important things to know for Day 1/Week 1:
-
Charge and bring your Chromebook.
-
Check Infinite Campus for your bus information, schedule (print it if possible), NEST teacher, and locker information (7th/8th grade).
-
Know your arrival and dismissal plan (bus, walkers, carline).
-
Know your lunch plan. If you are buying lunch, be sure you have money in your account and know your student ID number.
-
7th/8th Grade Student Athletes: Review the Sports Daily Update. You cannot try out or practice for a fall sport without completing all required PIAA/CIPPE Form. Forms can be dropped off at the 6th Grade House Principal’s Office.
-
Phones, smartwatches, AirPods, and headphones should be placed in your schoolbag and kept in your locker starting on Day 1. Building strong habits now will set you up for success throughout the year.
-
Enter this year with an open mind and open heart. Be ready to engage, make new friends, persevere through challenges, and enjoy learning.
Families, please be sure to scan this entire update for additional important information regarding health forms and helpful information from our PTO.
On behalf of the entire Sandy Run staff, we cannot wait to SOAR with you this year!
With excitement,
Jen Nuskey
Principal, Sandy Run Middle School

💡LEARNING HIGHLIGHTS
Welcome back, Sandy Run Teachers & Staff!
This week, we welcomed our teachers and staff back from summer break, and the energy in the building has been incredible! Our educators spent time collaborating with their departments to plan meaningful lessons for the year ahead, exploring our comprehensive plan, and connecting our UD mission and values to the important work they do every day in the classroom. They also poured time and care into setting up their classrooms—spaces that are now ready to inspire and welcome our students. We are so excited to see our hallways filled with laughter and learning once again, and we can’t wait to welcome our students back very soon!
🍎 SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Important First Day Information
Student safety is our number one priority each and every day. If you are dropping off or picking up your child, we ask that you please remain vigilant and follow our established carline procedures. These routines are designed to keep all students safe and ensure a smooth and efficient arrival and dismissal for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a safe school environment.
- All families dropping off and/or picking up their child must enter/exit off of Twining Road. Martin Lane is not open to cars during any part of the school day.
- It is extremely important that cars follow our staff instructions and pull up as far as you can in order to avoid a traffic jam on Twining Road.
- Please drive slowly, avoid use of technology, and use caution when entering and exiting our parking lot for student safety.
- Cars may not park in our parking lot and allow their child to walk across the carline.
First Day of School Information
- Students may enter the building at 8:05. Grab-and-go breakfast will be available upon arrival each and every day. Class begins at 8:20.
- Students will report directly to their "NEST" on the first day of school. The nest teacher and classroom number can be found at the bottom of the student schedule.
- Students should bring their charged Chromebook and are welcome to bring their supplies on the first day.
- 7th and 8th grade students will receive their lockers on the first day. 6th grade students will be assigned lockers by the second day of school.
- Students will follow a modified first day of school schedule that consists of time in their NEST, team-building activities, a grade-level assembly to review rules and expectations, and time in core/encore classes.
- Students are dismissed at 3:00. There will be plenty of staff supporting students as they locate their buses and report to carline.
SRMS Student Handbook & Cell Phone Information
As we begin a new school year, we encourage all students and families to take time to review the
Sandy Run Middle School Student Handbook. Proactively refreshing our understanding of rules and expectations helps set the stage for a positive and successful year. All students will review the handbook upon their return to school and will be asked to acknowledge receipt. On the first day, students will also participate in an assembly focused on school rules, expectations, and our shared Sandy Run values—supporting a strong start and a community where every student can thrive.
Cell Phones, Smart Watches, Air Pods, Headphone: Students must refrain from possessing and using their cell phone or smart watches during the day. All cell phones are to be placed in school bags upon arrival to school and are to be locked in the student’s locker to avoid distractions and aid in the educational process. Telephones are available in school offices for student use, when necessary.
All airpods and headphones are to be locked in the student's locker. Students may not have airpods or headphones in their ear(s) or around their neck during the school day. Teachers will instruct students to retrieve their headphones from their lockers when necessary for instructional purposes. Any student who fails to comply with these expectations will face disciplinary consequences. We ask all of our families to review the cell phone, smart watch, airpod, and headphone policy with students.
From the Athletics Office
We are excited to kick off the 2025–2026 fall sports season at Sandy Run! Our student-athletes are eager to get started, and we look forward to cheering them on throughout the year. Each day, we ask families to review our Sports Daily Update, which provides important information on practice and game schedules.
We are also thrilled to welcome our new Athletic Director, Dr. Luther Green, to the Sandy Run community. As a reminder, all student-athletes must have completed PIAA/CIPPE Form submitted prior to trying out or practicing. Students will not be permitted to participate without these forms.
From the Health Office
Our school nurse plays an important role in keeping our students safe, healthy, and ready to learn each day. Families are encouraged to reach out to our school nurse with any health-related questions, concerns, or updates. Please be sure to submit all physicals, medication forms, and other required health documents as soon as possible so that we can best support your child throughout the school year.
