Hello Blacklick Families -

Get ready for Blacklick Elementary’s annual PRIDE PICNIC on Wednesday, May 22 (rain date Thursday, May 23) . This is a day filled with friendship and fun! This year’s theme is “All-Star Games”. The 15 activities will feature favorites from the past, as well as some new! Grades 3, 4, and 5 will be participating in the morning and Grades K, 1, and 2 will be participating in the afternoon. After talking about Poetry and Earth Day, second grade is now focusing on some folktales. We’re going to read, watch, and listen to a storyteller for three different ways to hear a story featuring Anansi, the trickster spider from many West African folktales.

Art Update in Second Grade

2nd grade artists have been hard at work on their coil pots! After learning the clay techniques of coiling and making safe clay attachments, students have created beautiful coil style pots. After the first fire, we have begun to glaze the pots! Once they are done being painted, back into the kiln they go for another firing and afterwards they will be smooth, shiny and even more vibrant!

BES Staff Favorite Things

The Blacklick PRIDE Partner PTO has complied a list of the staff's favorite things. It is important to understand the teachers are not asking for gifts. We know that many parents might want to get their child's teacher a gift and this list is to help you select something the teacher would like. Please do not feel obligated to buy a gift for your child's teachers/staff members. A thoughtful note from you and/or your child at any time of the year is appreciated just as much or more as any gift.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Karen Davidson, PTO President, at ptoblacklick@gmail.com.
